One of the ESPN talking heads, I forget which (maybe Buster Olney?) said that Mattingly asked Hanley where he wanted to play and Hanley said he wanted to play third for a couple days til he could get used to playing short again. Then he’ll play short until Gordon comes back, and after that he’ll shift back to third.

Not sure that’s what’s actually going to happen, but that’s what ESPN reported on their telecast of the game last night.

Obviously they must be – had to be so few Dodger fans in attendance, then, if nobody did *anything* for him :p It’s not like they booed him. Even if they are the “best fans” – why should Cards fans care that he’s making his first appearance for the Dodgers?

From the game article: “After getting announced to zero response from a near-sellout crowd for his first at-bat in the second, Ramirez tripled against Kyle Lohse”. Well, they were at Busch Stadium, not Dodger Stadium. Why would the home crowd cheer or anything?

I thought he turned a deep fly ball horribly played into a triple. Come on. Remain consistent with your criticism.

That being said, Hedley scored when Loney sac flied to medium right center a few pitches later.

A lack of hustle and a lack of fundamentals. He never even glanced at his 3rd base coach. How does a 26 year old major leaguer who has been in the majors for the better part of a decade still look over his shoulder to try to decide whether to hit the brakes at third or not? It is so fundamental, every well coached 12 year old knows that if the ball is in front of you, make up your own mind. If the ball is in right center, and you are between 2nd and third, don’t do a flippin 180 3 times to try to decide if you need to round third, go in standing, or slide. The third base coach doesn’t have to run the bases, and has a much better view of the developing play. It is very difficult to run full speed while running backwards.

So frustrating, and I’m not a Dodgers fan. Want a how-to video on how to run the bases? Look somewhere else, because that was pitiful.

I turned away during the replay on MLB channel (not the game broadcasters but MLB tonight), and I heard the announcers saying he hadn’t hustled out of the box or would have had an inside the park home run. Sup rising if true, consider his new situation.

The “triple” was a routine fly to deep center horribly misplayed by Cards CF’er John Jay, HanRam may have had an inside the parker on if he didn’t dog it out of the box.
