Ike Davis was actually brought up after Murphy got hurt and another washed up ex Mets player failed and was demoted.

Tejada was brought up for the most part when Reyes left.

I might be exaggerating a bit but they seem to call up out of necessity, or desperation, not when a player is ready.

With regards with the bullpen at the time the signings made sense the same in regards to the Pagan for Torres/Ramirez trade. It’s not Alderson’s fault that they didn’t work out. Omar’s folly was doling out those retraded contracts, the SOB did have a gift for young talent.

Alderson has tripped up in trying to remake the bullpen. But I’d rather have him as GM now than Omar who made a big mess of things. Somehow I think if Omar had stayed, things would be much worse now, and half of the real promising prospects on the farm might have been traded by now for quick-fix veterans.

Harvey really struggled earlier in the year at AAA. I don’t think he was ready. The good thing about him is that as he stepped through every level of the minors, he struggled but then was able to right himself and learn from it. He adjusts well.

But the point is if he was promoted earlier, got shelled, then fans would have complained about him and lambasted Alderson. I think they handled Harvey perfectly.

Gee, Niese, Edgin, Ike = all brought up at the appropriate time. bbk1000 is grossly exaggerating.

It’s hard to know what the right time is for starting pitchers anyhow. Just look at recent examples such as Drabek and Bauer.

Management has said all along they are planning for the future not for today. 2014 was the year that is always mentioned. This season’s first half was a gift, and even Matt Harvey wouldn’t of made a difference in this season.
Offense is still awful, bullpen is no good, but if we would actually score runs we wouldn’t have to depend on the bullpen period.

David Wright, Jose Reyes, Ike Davis, and Rueben Tejada (not a prospect) were brought up at the appropriate time. I agree, however, that no pitching prospect have come up at the right time though.

Sandy dumped not only Oliver Perez, but also Luis Castillo while still owing them millions, something Omar never would have done. Both of these moves were huge for the fan base. He brought up our homegrown players instead of free agents. His moves won’t show up until after all the dead weight is gone, Jason Bay and Santana’s contracts.
Alderson’s bullpen moves were every bit as terrible as Omars. Lets not forget J.J. Putz, K-Rod, and Sean Green bullpen.
Omar has always been an amazing judge of young talent. That ability has not transcended to free agents.

If the Mets had their way they would have left him in the minors until he was 30. They haven’t handled prospects properly since the mid 80′s.

It was nice to hear about a prospect in the minors and actually see him play ball in a Mets uniform.

Actually, Minaya drafted Harvey. And outside of the Wheeler deal (albeit which looks to be a tremendous one) Alderson hasn’t really done anything of note.

His big job over the offseason was to rebuild the bullpen and the Mets have the worst bullpen in the league.

He traded Pagan for Torres and Ramirez who have both been terrible this season.

I’m not hating on Sandy, but the jury is still out on him.

Happy for Matt Harvey, Watched the game, and was glad he a great debut, hope he endures a great career. He is a product of Sandy Alderson, who’s principles of saber-metrics helped teach Billy Beane during his days as an assistant GM. Sandy has done a great job in rebuilding the Mets organization. He deserves some well respected credit.

And Parnell managed to get it done. Couldn’t be happier for Harvey. So nice to see a bright spot for the Mets after the mess they’ve been recently.

He got an awful lot of swings and misses, many on pitches well out of the strike zone. Either he’s got electric stuff, or the D-Backs are some serious free swingers. Either way, it was worth the wait to see him finally make his debut.
