If there is an underlying cause for those injuries, I wonder if it might be due to the way he chases so many pitches out of the zone. This might put his hands under extra stress on some swings.

The wasted part is being a morbidly obese 25 year old professional athlete. Nobody can say for sure if being overweight caused this injury, but the extra weight certainly doesn’t help him in any way. His manager and general manager have been challenging him to get in shape for the last three years so I don’t think I’m advancing a radical notion here.

Getting hit by pitches in the same bone on different hands might just be random bad luck. On the other side, he can just be one of those guys who are injury prone. The fact that he can’t maintain his weight is just a lack of dedication.
