A 23 year old starting pitcher is very different than an above average 29 year old 3B who had the best month of his life earlier this season. Don’t get me wrong I’d love to have him and I think he’ll be alot better outside of petco, but if the padres think waiting until this off season is going to get them an elite prospect they’re out of their mind. As for adding more teams to the mix bad teams are already involved because of his contract. I think if they wait for the off season they eliminate the Yankees, and probably the Angels and Orioles. The price isn’t going any higher sell him now or build a different ball park.

Whether it is now or the off-season, there are some teams that will want to upgrade the third baseman position. The difference between them trading now and in the off-season is that no playoff contender will want to part with any MLB/MLB ready talent now. Do you think the Reds would have given up what they did for Matt Latos right now? Probably not since it consisted of 1 MLB player and 3 MLB ready players.
