Only a few things matter here: Marte is 23 (about four years prior to his likely peak) and the Pirates have six years of control over his contract. Definitely upside potential there. Choo is 30 (about three years past his peak) and they’d have two months of control. No upside there, not even if Pittsburgh thought their competetive window is closing, which it is not.

Not to mention they moved Marte from center to left two weeks before bringing him up, to get him used to it. Why would they want to showcase the kid in the majors if they were going to trade him. Better to let him bang on AAA pitching an extra week thsn take the risk of him not looking good in The Show.

Yeah, that’s a fair trade. Choo, who is having a very good season going to the Pirates, and the Indians get a guy who can’t even get NL Pitchers out. Brilliant.

It’s a little premature to label Marte as a bust. His has a good upside and has shown decent plate discipline as indicated by 2 k’s to this point. Choo would be a nice pick up, but he’s not worth a top tier prospect that is under team control for quite a while. Send them Corriea, Locke or Wilson, and a mid fielding prospect. That’s all he’s worth. Especially with Boras as his agent.

Choo is proven. Marte isn’t. It’s that simple bucs fans. If anything we should get a pitcher too because what if Marte is a bust at the MLB level, unlike Choo who clearly is not

The truth is Marte could wind up being a bust, after all, he’s just a prospect. May I remind you guys that the Indians picked up a “Can’t miss” prospect, named Andy Marte? How did he do? Or how about that one guy they traded CC Sabtahia for, Matt Laporta? There is no guanrantee that this Marte will be any good, either.

and I love how you Pittsburgh fans are saying screw you Cleveland and we are nuts. the Pirates are the ones pursuing this deal. I heard the guy from the Pittsburgh newspaper on 92.3 The Fan this afternoon and he made it apparent that Pittsburgh wants him and is willing to trade Marte to make it happen…Idiots

Marte isnt on Choos level. as a Tribe fan I would take this trade. Fact is Scott Boras is Choo’s agent. Boras will not allow Choo to sign with a mid to low market team like the Indians or Pirates. the Tribe is better off getting a young OF with plenty of upside for Choo now and let the Pirates deal with that headache next yr when his contract is up.

why would dealing Marte for Choo a bad deal

the best case for Marte at his peak is probably the level that Choo is at now.

Marte is 23 years old and his highest OPS in the minors over a full season is .870 at AA last year.

Choo has been at .870 or more 4 of the 5 past years
