Just when Boston’s season couldn’t get any stupider…

Ryan Sweeney left Monday’s game after punching a door in frustration and will undergo X-rays on his left hand on Tuesday.

Sweeney was a trade candidate for the Red Sox, and though no deal was believed close, they were still discussing him with teams, including the Reds, according to CSNNE.com’s Sean McAdam. He’s hit .260/.303/.373 in 204 at-bats for Boston this season.

If Sweeney is diagnosed with a break, there’s a good chance the Red Sox will refuse to pay him while he’s out. He’s making $1.75 million this season.

In 2004, Carl Pavano punched a wall and injured his hand. Now this year Hanley Ramirez punches a ceiling fan and Ryan Sweeney hurts himself punching a door. The moral of the story is that baseball players should stop punching things

      And Nick Hagadone this year.

He’s obviously aware that you can’t trade a player on the DL. Touche, Sweeney.

You can, it just doesn’t happen very often. But the Braves did it tonight with Vizcaino, and the Cubs might do it tomorrow with Garza.

Well, this answers my question in the trade article. Thanks.

Hardest hit he’s had all year.
