Jayson Stark reports that, despite shopping Josh Johnson around in the past week, the Marlins are going to hold on to him. This is not exactly shocking given what was reported to be a sky-high asking price for the effective but-often injured starter.

Johnson is 6-7 with a 4.04 ERA on the year and is under the Marlins’ control through next season.

    Why stop now?

No reason to trade him unless you get a lot in return; however. given his medical history, there was no reason to trade for him, unless he came cheap. Thus, no deal.

And he wasn’t coming cheap, so here he is. The local consensus for the past three days or so seems to have been that they’ll hope he has a good second half and try to move him this weenter. They’re well and truly stuck with Tweeter and his gimpy knee now, they couldn’t give Black Hole Buck away, and don’t seem to be finding much of a market for Krazy Karlos or Reeky. They might make a small deal or two by tomorrow night but I suspect that this here is the scow in which we’re going to ride out the season.
