The Jays traded from strength and traded two outfielders for relief pitchers. Obviously, they have decided to keep Gose. They still have a couple of solid outfield prospects in Triple and Double A. While many rumor mongers had linked the Jays to starting pitchers, their greatest need was for bullpen depth. Their replacement starters (Villanueva, Laffey and Cecil) have pitched well.

Per Chris Johnson to the Diamondbacks for two prospects: the Astros sold high. Johnson has been on a tear of late, but he actually looks to be about an average hitter with a few more stirkeouts than you would like and not enough power for a third baseman. If you like your game to be exciting, then watching him try to field at third base will keep you on the edge of your seat every play.

Overall I thought the Astros weren’t able to pull any major coups with the big fire sale, but they probably got about the value expected. The Johnson deal may be one where they did a little better.
