Red Sox backup catcher Kelly Shoppach has been bandied about in trade talks for close to a month now. The latest:
Nationals and Brewers have interest in Shoppach.

He’s hitting .261/.343/.513 in 136 plate appearances and isn’t expensive. He’d be a good platoon catcher, as he mashes lefties.

Can’t imagine Boston would get too much for him but it would be a good opportunity to bring up Lavarnway.

Lucroy, Maldanado. Why Shopach?

That’s a good point. Depth, maybe? Or maybe they want to send Maldonado back down so he can get everyday at-bats or work on calling the game.

Maybe Randy Wolf needs a new catcher? He probably pouted and demanded a new one after George left

Blockbuster deal. Boston will get nothing in exchange for this guy. He’s another Boston player that is an asshole, going in and talking with Bobby V about getting more playing time. Who does he think he is and why is this behavior allowed?

Played little league ball with this guy and I imagine he’s an even bigger DBag. He is a good defender and apparently has a good chemistry with the rotation so he’s a commodity still.

Mike Rizzo has said that he’s OK with the Nats’ catching depth, but the rumors say he’s looking for a veteran backup (and maybe middle infield depth). Jesus Flores does an admirable job defensively, but has been pretty beaten up. IMHO, getting a veteran rental would be wise. Next season, Wilson Ramos returns as the starter and Flores returns to the role of a good backup.
