A relief pitcher if you use him a ton pitches 80 innings. A good starting pitcher better hit 200 innings, making him over twice as valuable as a relief pitcher, plus he was a great starting pitcher as well. Any time you have a rotation slot open and a talented pitcher who has the capability to start, I’d say that pitcher should at least be given a chance to maximize his contribution to the team in the rotation.

I would be curious to see if the minors starter -> majors reliever -> majors starter path results in more injuries, though. Between Feliz, Bard, and Joba there’s at least anecdotal evidence that it’s a bad idea.
