The Mets received 2 comp picks for loosing Reyes (35 and 71). The deals offered for his services just couldn’t beat that. Mets had some bad luck in that the Marlins also signed Heath Bell, whom ranked higher then Reyes, and didn’t get the higher draft picks.

A certain level of competence? This team is horrible. Get what you can for Hairston & let Valdespin play his position, or bring up someone from the minors. This is exactly what happened last year with Reyes. For some reason management thought they were going to be able to keep him for years to come, and ended up letting him walk away with nothing in return. Everyone on this team should be shopped right now except for Wright.

I think that with Bay doing nothing, Duda back in the minors, and Torres hurting again, there might just be no way to move Hairston without slipping below a certain level of competence.

Package deal him with Wright to the Phillies for Victorino and Polanco and we’ll throw Pence in too…..Sarcasm for the clueless. If the Mets don’t throw a boatload of money at Wright they’re dumb, this obviously as a Phillies fan. He’s a beast and one of my favorite players, even though he’s a Met. He deserves big bucks killing it like he is.

very shortsighted on Sandy’s part if they keep him. He’s priced himself out of their free agent range of league minimum anyway.
