Qualls sucks. I told Yankee fans when they got him from the Phillies that he’d hurt them more than help them. Now the Pirates will see how bad he sucks. He won’t help your team at all, if anything hurt it. Stop trying to rashing this Pirates fans, he sucks. Ask Phillies and Yankees fans……..he needs to retire.

and here I thought the Pirates were serious about making a run for the postseason. Chad Qualls. Really?
The main stat missing is “The Qualls Index”, i.e., the percentage of inherited runners he induced (watching him had some similarities to labor) to score thereby inflating the prior pitcher’s ERA. If some percentage of those runs were applied to his ERA, I’d guess it’s really in the 8.50-9.00 range, but I might be understating it.
For the Yankees, it’s addition by subtraction.

I guess McGehee can stand at 3B with a glove on his hand when the Yankees face a lefty. Or keep first base warm for a week while Teix heals up. Either way Qualls was a goner so I guess this is a risk worth taking.

I actually applaud the Pirates for not getting sucked into their first taste of winning in a couple decades by throwing out top prospects for rent-a-vets. They are making marginal upgrades without sacrificing future success.

It doesn’t get us any closer but it doesn’t get us any further away. Qualls will be an option after Hanarahan, Grilli (thanks for that), Cruz, Watson, and Resop.

Casey McGhee was expendable now that they acquired Gaby Sanchez. Gave up nothing and got nothing.

Pirates offense has stunk, and they got a high-upside, cost-controlled, long-term asset in Snider. It may not work out, but that is a gamble worth taking. Unless Toronto is will to do backsies on the whole Bautista trade. That would also be good.

The was the other show I’d seen waiting for to drop since the Sanchez for Hernandez trade. I don;t see how the Pirates are any better now than they were three days ago, or how Hurdle will have the line-up shake out, but if these are the activities that kept Huntington from trading Marte for Choo, i’ll take it.

However, all fully on board with Stiller43: this guy from the jays better be good. Lincoln was a very valuable component of the pitching staff. I would far rather have seen Correia go than Lincoln, but I supposed Toronto wanted Lincoln far more than they wanted Correia..

With the injuries to A-Rod and (maybe) Tex, a mediocre corner infielder is more valuable to the Yankees than a mediocre relief pitcher. Clearly not a game changer, but with the lack of internal options and the relative worthlessness of Qualls, I like it.

THIS is going to be the deal that changes the Yanks season… yup… look back in Oct. when they are holding the chip up high and you will all say.. it was that trade for McGehee that got us here..
