In all fairness, the Pirates haven’t had a player worthy enough of abandoning one’s child in a very long time!!! Also I must confess that I too left my daughter sitting in her seat at the Marlins games earlier this season to go get Cutch’s sig. But my daughter is 12 and is a black belt in tae kwon do, not defenseless in a stoller. That would have been a tougher call for me to make!!

You’re supposed to use the stroller as a battering ram to get to the front of the pack and then tell McCutchen the autograph is for the kid. This is not hard.

You are adding context to the story when context is not necessary. The parent left an infant unattended in order to get an autograph. That is all the information that is necessary to understand the parent was being completely irresponsible.

I’m not a parent either, and yet common sense tells me any responsible parent would either A.) carry the infant in his/her arms while trying to get an autograph, B.) ask someone else in attendance with them to get the autograph, or C.) not worry about getting the autograph at all.

Hey, no worries. If that guy wearing all the gear in the white shirt is dad, you bet he’s gonna pay. When his wife sees this he is DONE. I recall from my ex’s behaviour after having a baby that if a new mom feels you were in some way being negligent with her child (keeping in mind that after having a baby most ladies aren’t too reasonable) the term “Nuclear Winter” should describe his life for the next month or so. Dude’s gonna pay.

I’m certain you don’t realize that when you text people a pic of your morning poop at work, it’s what you’ve always done, but I’m sure that before that cellphone was in the stall you just had to tell people how impressive it was.

I may have made the same argument you’re making once upon a time, but experience has a way of quickly exposing and squelching such ignorance. Actually having a baby and knowing how much her safety and well-being consumes my thoughts and actions makes my opinion on this matter completely irreversible.

We can hope it’s not a fair representation, but if the kid is small enough to need a stroller at a baseball game, you shouldn’t be more than 10 feet away. It’s a crowded area, and in the world we live in today, you don’t know what kind of drunken idiots/ predators / pedophiles / whatever are around you.

From you perspective as a non-parent, that probably sounds paranoid, but it’s the reality of the world we live in today. I hope you can grasp that before you become a parent. Don’t take that critically, just being sincere.
