The players I account for are:

Omar Vizquel – 0 HR, 517 OPS
Colby Rasmus – 19 HR, 771 OPS (one of the good hitters I spoke of)
EE – 28 HR, 953 OPS (the other good hitter I spoke of)
Kelly Johnson – 12 HR, 696 OPS (remember, this is the cleanup hitter)
Yunel Escobar – 7 HR, 652 OPS
David Cooper – 767 OPS in 80 at bats
Rajai Davis – 6 HR, 727 OPS
Jeff Mathis – 6 HR, 753 OPS
Anthony Gose, 453 OPS

What part of this lineup is impressive outside of Rasmus/EE? From that lineup there are 2 minor league call ups, 3 bench players, and 2 middle infielders who can’t post a 700 OPS.

Most of the 80 home runs you speak from came from 2 guys, like I said. Rasmus & EE combined have 47. KJ has hit a bunch of home runs but his overall production blows.

The Jays are a good run scoring team, but they’re missing several key regulars and the lineup they threw out there looked more like a spring training lineup than a major league calibre lineup. Let’s not pretend that Straily was facing a good lineup here.

Did my longer comment on Settling the Score, but this game really does illustrate the difference between the 2012 A’s and the team of the last few years. Even with the deflating 9th inning HR-to-tie by Mathis, the A’s showed composure and hung on to win it. They had a good opportunity in the bottom of the 10th with bases loaded and 1 out, but Lincoln struck out Reddick for out number 2 and Moss couldn’t come up with the 2 out hit. However, the As unveiled their new weapon, the starter-turned-reliever Travis Blackley whose 3 shutout innings kept the A’s in it until Weeks’ lead-off triple in the 15th.

The injuries continue to pile up. Both Lawrie and Rasmus are expected to miss today’s game. If Gomes catches today, the Jays will start 5 position players who began the season in Triple A. Should be a good experience for the kids. Kind of feel sorry for the fans in Las Vegas. All of the top prospects on that team are either in the majors (Gose, Cooper, Sierra, Gomes and Hechavarria, traded (Snider and Thames) or injured (d’Arnaud). The kids are OK. All of them are legitimate prospects who should have decent careers in the majors.

Straily looked good cause he faced a minor league lineup. Lawrie hurt his oblique in his first AB, so the lineup he faced was basically:

Good performance during his major league debut, but I wouldn’t call that murderer’s row. There’s maybe 2 quality hitters in that lineup lol.
