One is ignorant only if wins is the only stat someone refers to in describing a pitcher’s effectiveness, but it certainly isn’t an irrelevant piece of data. Sure, there are some pitchers every year who win more games that it appears they should have based on luck, their offense, etc. But a win, for the most part, reflects positively on a starting pitcher in terms of simply doing better than the other guy on that day. Look at the leader boards every year. The best pitchers in baseball are almost always there. They generally keep their runs allowed low and pitch deeper into games than your average starter. That would seem to be a winning formula, and certainly nothing to scoff at. Obviously, there are stats that look deeper into a pitcher’s performance and effectiveness, but let’s not ignore the win!

Obviously kelly will be pushed into the pen when Garcia comes back, but i would love to seek another starter so that Lynn can be pushed into a relief role as well. That has nothing to do with Lynn being uneffective, its more of a precautionary measure regarding his workload. Lynn still has some fire left in the tank, but his lack of experience as a starter for a full season can prove to be a liability in September, and that could be crucial to contenders like the Cards.

Right now Lynn looks sharp enough, and he might be able to last the whole year as a starter, of course. But do know that it is completely rational to consider putting the guy in the bullpen.

Oh, and please stop referring to wins when talking about a pitcher’s caliber. It just goes to show how ignorant one is.
