David Glass is the worst owner on professional sports and is holding this once great franchise hostage. He is a Walmart millionaire several times over and won’t spend the money to win. He’s all about further padding his profits and not being competitive in a bad division. For the love of all things good, please somebody purchase this team and make it competitive again. All of KC despises the Glass family. He never leaves Bentonville and goes to more double A games than Royals games. He is an admitted Cardinals fan. Please Sporting KC owners, buy the Royals!!!!!

Mijares is no big loss to them, but he’s still a very solid lefty specialist. If he could be had for nothing but $350,000 in salary relief, shouldn’t they have traded him at the deadline? Everyone’s looking for pitching this time of year. I think a perpetually rebuilding team like the Royals should always be trying to get *something* for guys with some value that they give up, on the off chance whatever B prospect they get for him actually turns into something.

But…you know. No big deal I guess.

Rany Jazeryarli commented on his Royals blog that the Royals probably don’t need Mijares given the guys they acquired in the Broxton trade.

Also, there are a lot of players listed on waivers at this time of year, so it may be easy to slip a guy through right now. Even if Mijaries’ contract versus performance looks reasonable right now when viewed in isolation, one can’t claim ALL of the seemingly reasonably-priced players simultaneously without leaving your club exposed to a lot of financial risk.

You are only half right. They go worst to best by league. Since Mijares was in the AL, all AL teams get first crack, worst to best, before ANY NL team. So, weird as it seems, the Yankees would be ahead of the Astros. Rangers would have been able to claim long before the Giants.

I wonder if the Royals saw what the Twins did, a guy sliding through on his talent and not really committing himself to the program of being a professional ballplayer both physically and mentally. I know the Twins weren’t happy with his conditioning or his ‘hunger’ as it were to get better. And as to whether the Twins’ staff knew of it or not I don’t know, but through personal experience and talking to a few people I know in the restaurant/club business in the Twin Cities, Jose really spent a lot of ‘late night’ time in the bars around town, and not sipping coffee…

Waiver pickups go in order from worst to best record.. so possibly a team with a better record tried, but it was granted to the Giants

He’s not great, but he has to be better than what SOME team in contention has, and it’s not like money was a factor.

Or do guys actually “slip” through like the little kid playing Ships Across The Ocean?
