Verlander was fooling the Yankees on a lot of pitches, but still…the strike zone last night was about as bad as it gets. It’s like the ALDS game he pitched last year all over again.

As a Yankee fan, the most frustrating part of this game is Nova being unable to get off the field right after the Yanks tied it up. Something he needs to work on as he matures.

Yes, which is also the reason the ump didn’t need to give him the pitch 6 inches to a foot off the plate. He probably wouldn’t have struck out more than 10 if not for that!!! : P

Oh yeah the Yankees propensity to striking out is why JV stuck out 14, not the fact that he has the most K’s in the majors since 2009, that would just be perposterous.

They might be middle of the pack-ish in striking out, but where are they with RISP? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Yankees team more inept at moving runners over. It doesn’t look like they have any kind of approach planned when they get up to the plate- some guys look like they just go up there to swing as hard as they possible can (mostly Tex) and always to pull. It’s games like this and the past two against King Felix that make me think they aren’t going anywhere in the playoffs. Good pitchers can get them out. They have guys that swing 2-0 no matter what or where the pitch is. Good pitchers know how to take advantage of stuff like that-most likely you’re going to face good pitching if you make the playoffs and in a 5 game series, you can’t get shut down like they have the past couple of years.

They Yankees strike out the 10th fewest times in MLB. It is just your opinion that they strike out a lot, it is that assumption coupled with confirmation bias.

Dominant performance against what is still a potent Yankee lineup, no doubt there, but just the same – Jered Weaver 4-hits the A’s (granted, the A’s) and does so for nine innings and throws 17 less pitches than JV, and gets no press?

No offense to Verlander, because he’s a great pitcher, but this Yankee team has a whole lot of K’s in it. I’ve stated this before, but you stat guys have shown it isn’t the case. Granderson Swisher, Tex, Andruw (smiling strikeout ) Jones,Russell Martin, and Arod when he’s in there K a hell of a lot, and it always seems to be when runners are in scoring position. As my friend says: “just my opinion”

I was there too, great game to be at. A lot of people stayed until the end. Detroit has some great fans. Feels like a different team from a month ago.

I was at the game tonight. JV dominated from start to finish. Awesome atmosphere at the ball park. Great game to go to.
