Good news here for the Giants, who are clinging to a half-game advantage in the National League West.

From’s Andrew Baggarly comes word that Pablo Sandoval is tentatively scheduled to play in minor league rehab games Friday and Saturday at High-A San Jose and could be activated from the 15-day disabled list as early as Sunday.

Sandoval has been on the shelf since July 25 with a hamstring strain that he sustained while stretching for a thrown ball at first base. He ran in the outfield Tuesday afternoon at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and has a similar workout planned for Wednesday.

“Kung Fu Panda” was batting .299/.352/.491 with eight homers and 33 RBI in 62 games played this season.

In other news, Sandval is also expected to be cleared to rejoin his Krispy Kreme donuts. Mmmmm…sweet, succulent Krispy Kreme donuts.

I’m sorry, didn’t realize this was Giants Talk. Can you move the topics to east coast teams, or at the least focus more on AL clubs? /sarcasm

While I’ll be glad to see his bat back in the lineup, I’d actually like to see him traded, provided the deal is a good one for the Giants. And yeah, I know, he’s got a deal favorable to the team, but that also makes him very attractive to other teams, which for once, actually gives the Giants a potential deal that would bring back good value. That said, if and when he gets his various self-control issues behind him (which I’m not convinced he ever will), he’ll be a great asset, to this team, or any other.
