Mike Napoli rides the pine for the fourth time in a week

Aug 8, 2012, 11:02 AM EDT

Mike Napoli AP AP

UPDATE: Never mind. He’s out with quad soreness. Please stand down the Washington Doesn’t Like Mike Napoli alert.

11:02 AM: Mike Napoli didn’t play in last night’s game against the Red Sox. Geovany Soto did. Today, in a day game after a night game, Soto is in there again, with Napoli once again on the bench. In fact, it’s his fourth game on the bench in the last seven Rangers games.

Michael Young, though, is ensconced in the DH slot despite his .299 OBP.  Those seven outs every ten at bats are really classy, though.

Mike Napoli will look smashing in a NY Mets uniform in 2013

    • pw38 - Aug 8, 2012 at 1:26 PM

What, in MLB The Show? Good luck with that, he’ll resign with the Rangers, no doubts on that.

  2. Joe - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:14 AM

But Young is hitting .271 vs. Napoli’s .226. Duh! So obvious…

  3. lunt101 - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:14 AM

Napoli is actually out with quad soreness. Also, Michael Young is making 10 outs every ten Plate Appearances, not ABs.

    Yeah, I’m that guy.

    • lunt101 - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:18 AM

      7 outs…..ugh

    • Jeremy T - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:35 AM

It only feels like 10 outs

  4. sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Perhaps Michael is also too Young to DH…

  5. Francisco (FC) - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:18 AM

Technically speaking 7 outs every 10 plate appearances, walks wouldn’t count as an at-bat, nor hit by pitch, nor sacrifice flies…

    • cur68 - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:54 AM

And those are classy outs too.

  6. bigleagues - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:58 AM

    Classy is as classy does.

  7. lewp - Aug 8, 2012 at 12:00 PM

    That how classy go.

  8. Mike Luna - Aug 8, 2012 at 12:01 PM

You should probably let Aaron report on Rangers stuff, Craig. Lest you embarrass yourself with your ignorance.

    • mattryannolan - Aug 8, 2012 at 12:10 PM

I think we should just calm down now.. He fixed the error… It happens, lets not publicly execute the guy.

      • Jeremy T - Aug 8, 2012 at 1:40 PM

Yeah, if we’re gonna execute him, we need to do it in secret, under cover of night.

    • rangersteve - Aug 8, 2012 at 2:08 PM

This is why I can’t stand reporters always trying to rush a story, just to be FIRST with a supposed scoop, or as appears to be the case here, pure speculation on the part of the reporter. This is how damaging rumors, affecting someone’s career, and by extension their livelihood, get started.

It isn’t a race, take your time getting the info the first time and you won’t have to print a correction…you know, like all of us peons are expected do in our own jobs everyday…

      • seanthegreatest - Aug 8, 2012 at 2:23 PM

Dude. It’s a blog. Try not to pretend this is the NY Times. It’s not like the NFL where there are injury reports. Craig didn’t realize Napoli had a yeast infection.

  9. beefytrout - Aug 8, 2012 at 12:34 PM

I sure am loving all the Rangers-based negativity coming from HBT recently.

    • pw38 - Aug 8, 2012 at 1:29 PM

Oh, you mean all the attention period? Cause let’s face it, The Angels we’re supposed to run away with this division this year based on all the preseason hype and you guys can’t seem to make up ground no matter how good you play and how average the Rangers play. It’s August 8th and you’re still 6 games out. Yeah good luck with that. I’d worry more about catching the A’s at this point. It’s good to set goals though; maybe you can snag one of the wildcard spots.

      • pw38 - Aug 8, 2012 at 1:48 PM

        edit: typos.

      • beefytrout - Aug 8, 2012 at 2:20 PM

As a die-hard Rangers fan, why would I want the angels to “snag one of the wildcard spots”?

      • pw38 - Aug 9, 2012 at 10:41 AM

Oh I thought you were an Angels fan. lol oops my bad. :p

I get that Young has gotten more praise than he’s deserved over the years, but jesus. Does it make sports writers feel better by bashing the guy at every opportunity?
