Ryan Jackson it is, per Joe Strauss.

Added to the 40 and in Philly tomorrow.

With Furcal's time being somewhat limited with back issues, I suspect he'll get a look when matchups don't favor Descalso.

Here's to him stepping up, pretty cool.

Holy hell, it seems Mark Mulder agrees with us on Kozma.

Here's a twitter exchange between he and Derrick Goold a few minutes ago, OUCH.

Derrick Goold @dgoold
"Three of Luhnow's eight first-round picks remain with #Cardinals. Can you name them? Kozma (2007), Miller (2009), and Wong (2011). #stlcards

Mark Mulder‏@markmulder20
@dgoold Kozma. I remember that pick. How is that working out? I remember coaches laughing about that I think"

Beyond the obvious, that really shows the great divide within the Cardinal organization during the Luhnow era, very much a "Who the hell did he draft high this time??" kinda feel.

Stex, my fellow Stro deep in the trenches at this time..... It was the last two weeks CJ was with us as well. You got the feeling he had finally found it, and it was only confidence with CJ.

He was playing with a burning fire, the same as Bogey plays with. I was bothered because we gave him a lot of opportunity, and traded him at a time where he rose his stock to get on the leagues radar. I saw it coming. Just a combo of CJs bat, and how we have lost the last few this week .... Not sure why it bothered me more than other weeks....

At the same time, I know all to well of the data you refer to..... I saw it first hand.

I prefer Jackson as well although I doubt they'll want to burn an option on him unless he's given more than "25th guy on the roster" status.

Kozma on the other hand (I agree, he is horrible) is so far down on the food chain organizationally they could probably care less if they called him up, burned one of his couple of options left and was only used in emergency situations.

Beginning on May 17, when he began the day hitting .370/.433/.500, Rafael Furcal has hit .206/.278/.252 in nearly 300 plate appearances. (That's right---his miserable on-base percentage is higher than his even more miserable slugging percentage.)

That stretch spans 79 team games, almost exactly half a season, and in that time Furcal has 6 extra-base hits while barely hitting above the Mendoza line. Furcal's defense has been solid, but if this kid Jackson really can play short, it won't take much with the stick to outperform Furcal, who at age 34 has turned into a black hole after a hot start.

Could be worth a look with little to lose.

No he can't play the infield, but I think Berkmans career is probably over. Bring up Jackson and Taveras. It's great insurance for days when Beltran or Jay need a day off.

Rafi has a bad back and Beltran always has a sore knee. Those two young guys could create some much needed depth and energy.

So Chris Johnson leaves to become the best hitter in baseball, we have our newly acquiered 3B doing great at Oklahoma..... and we go get a back up utility player.

There is no bigger Astro fan than me, and I say this every night as soon as we lose by 1 late...... I am going to enjoy them winning the AL West in a few years even more, because I watch this train wreck every night.

Was nice to meet Cranes traveling buddy in SD, he was optimistic...... I will remain optimistic.

Still have faith in Lunhow..... Go Stros..... We understand it will take time.

I think this was a case of Luhnow helping Mozeliak out and taking Greene off his hands.

Simply put, Greene's just not very good.

Here's an interesting summation from Derrick Goold of the STL Post Dispatch on the Cards first round picks during the Jeff Luhnow era in St Louis.

"If you're keeping score at home, it's now #Cardinals 3, #Astros 2. The game? How many first-round picks from the Cardinals since 2005 are left in the organization. Five of the eight first-rounders selected by Jeff Luhnow, who took charge of the draft for the Cardinals in 2005, have been traded or moved by the team, four in the past 13 months. Kozma, Wong, and Miller remain. Wallace and Greene are now on Luhnow's roster in Houston, where he took over as GM this season.'

From all the first rounders dealt, the Cards have 2 middle relievers on their active roster to show for.

But you have to say that he is walking into a wide open situation at Houston. If he can walk and chew gum at the same time he can play SS or 3rd. If he can hit above his weight he is a shoo-in for the outfield. Hell, if he can get the ball to 2nd I'd probably put him at catcher. Talk about one last chance to shine.

Yeah, I was hoping that too...that maybe all he needed was a consistent chance and a little room to breathe so he wasn't worried about making mistakes when he got his one AB/week or one start/month....but that wasn't it. He's just a bonehead. Too many dumb mistakes, too many mis-played balls on defense, too many 0-2 counts in which the pitcher hadn't yet thrown anything resembling a strike.

I'm glad he's gone.

I really thought this would be Greene's breakout year, with the 2b spot his for the taking, and coming off yet another fine minor-league season in 2011.

In the minors Greene always demonstrated double-digit HR power, great speed, and a decent enough walk rate to think he could be successful at the big-league level but it just hasn't happened. (Although he does have a 93% success rate on steals as a Cardinal in parts of four seasons)

Great tools, but sometimes it doesn't seem like he has the head. Dumb mistakes on defense, the inexcusable enter-the-game-as-a-pinchrunner-and-get-picked-off, hacktastic approach at the plate...

I always liked the guy, and hoped he could put it together, and maybe he will in a new environment.

It's about damn time! He doesn't have Larussa around anymore to blame for all his failures.

Now cut Berkman loose and call Taveras up and that lineup will be stacked.
