Good game for Harper to sit out. Won easy without him–he doesn’t have to be a hero. Other guys are in slumps on contending teams (Hunter Pence, anyone?). Get your head together, kid, and don’t do dumb stuff in the outfield.

Kubel himself was a good free agent, and the compensation pick the Twins got was deserving. It was just head-scratching for the D-Backs to sign him when they already had a gold glove left fielder, and needs in other areas.

My friend, did my previous comment sound like I was overly excited about yesterday win? If you must know though I was more impressed by the Yankees pitching both the starting pitching and the bullpen which hadn’t looked that good for several several. So my reason for the optimism was the pitching the offense the past few days the bullpen yesterday and as you could see from my previous comment Chavez’s play. Hope that clarifies it.
BTW, let me know when your son’s LL teams scheduled to face off against any ML pitcher.

Funny thing. I am not the sort who usually holds it against players who leave a team I root for. I really do want to see Reyes succeed, and I know it’s not his fault the Mets didn’t even try to re-sign him. But I felt a bit of smug satisfaction that his hitting ended against the Mets yesterday.

Didn’t feel that way about his error, though.

Why was the Kubel signing such a head scratcher? He was a solid contributor for the Twins who would occasionally go on a massive roll or even belt a walk of grand slam on Mariano Rivera in a place like Yankee Stadium. A two-year/$15M deal for an established everyday player isn’t much of a risk in today’s MLB.

Thanks, Craig, for noticing the Rays’ pitching. The young Matt Moore got himself in trouble in the first inning, but managed to pull it together. Now with Longo back, there are signs of life in the Rays’ offense. The Wild Card race should be another fun ride this year, the way things are shaping out. Kudos to the Orioles for hanging in the race far longer than anyone thought they could.

Beltran’s line with the Giants last year: .323/.369/.551. I don’t know. That seems like helping quite a bit….it is also better than he has hit for StL this year.

I have to hand it to Davey Johnson, pulling Jordan Zimmerman after 6 innings with only 87 pitches on a night when he was cruising and probably could have gone eight and increased his K total to 14-15. Johnson knows that having Zimmermann make a big splash with a gaudy strikeout game to keep pace with Dickey in the Cy Young race is no where near as important as conserving his young ace’s strength for the stretch run.

Maybe the Yankees have gotten back on track with these 2 latest wins against a good Tigers team. BTW, Chavez has just been golden this season and especially since roughly the beginning of July. For the $900K Chavez signed for plus incentives he would be a bargain at twice the price.

So the Feesh's little bit of momentum, if there really is any such thing in baseball, founders upon contact with the Beeg Dickey. A knuckleballer striking out ten, yeah, you can imagine that. Walking nobody? Gimme a break. Day game after a night game, they sit the Iron Giant and his bionic knee. Not to take anything away from Dickey but you notice how the Feesh lineup came to a simulacrum of life with him back for a day or so, then deflated like a discount tire that ran over an icepick with him back on the bench? Josh Johnson pitched well enough to stay in any game that featured something more than a slightly undead lineup behind him, but this looks like R. A.'s year. Whaddayagonnadoo?
