The Sox are a playoff caliber team ….. for AAA.As a NY Yankees fan for over 50 years, I can tell you for a fact the Bronx Zoo days of the 80′s have nothing on the current Sox. Billy Martin was a mean drunk , but at least he didn’t allow anyone but himself to drink in the clubhouse during the game.And he was light years better than Valentine in the game department.I hope The Sox continue to play up to their own media backstabbing of them. Hey, Is Paul Revere available for GM ??

This is sadly something I’ve been saying for months. They started a little rough, they’ve had some ridiculous injuries, but they’ve recovered just fine from them.

Beckett’s struggles are well documented, since everyone seems to hate him anyone. But people don’t talk about Lester’s struggles for some reason. I understand that Lester is much more likable, and it seems horrible to bash on the guy who came back from cancer. I’m a huge Lester fan, but every time I see he’s pitching, I cringe a little and chalk the game up as lost before it starts. Whatever happens in the rest of the season, I hope he finds a way to work out whatever is going on with him.

If I managed the Red Sox, I’d charter two buses ~ one to bring my best 3-A club to Boston and the other to send the entire big league roster down. I really blame Bobby for not taking firm control right out of the gate. A leader can always lighten up but you can never tighten up after losing control. In Boston, no one is really running the team but everybody is running his mouth. No one is in charge; everybody including the players think they are. The Sox are playoff caliber ~ they just need a firm leader to square them away and if owner/front office folks won’t play along, hand them the keys and wish them well in the draft.

Which is another reason I don’t listen to talk radio. They all give me serious anxiety.

I was close enough . I always think Maryland because they have a restaurant around Gaithersburg, MD. I love the 60 and 90 minutes, but the 120 minute is too hoppy for me and I love hoppy beer.

Not entirely true. Bud is made with Rice and Corn fillers because they were native to the America’s unlike the ingredients they were using in Europe at the time. So when Anheuser-Busch started brewing they had to adapt to what was here and more plentiful. While it is true that corn and rice are cheaper that’s not the whole reason.

I think Clubhouse ban on alcohol is stupid…these guys are grown men and it’s not as if they have a real job like a bus driver, fireman, electrician. Etc. that would put themselves or the public at risk with their drinking…I can’t recall any report of a guy getting tanked in the clubhouse and causing a disturbance…knee-jerk reaction to the media. And I try not to make a habit of defending the leisure activities of millionaires, but this is ridiculous.

No disrespect, but get a freakin’ grip!

The Sox are 15-27 in games started by Beckett and Lester this season.

As I commented more extensively down below:

IF the Red Sox got more typical ace-caliber type performances out of Beckett and Lester and were, say, 27-15 in games started them . . . guess what that does to the Sox record?

They would be 67-46, 21 Games over .500 and currently have a 1-game lead on the Yankees with the 2nd best record in the Majors.

BTW, taking it all 1-step further? The Red Sox awful Home record? Beckett and Lester are a combined 4-13 in games they have started at Fenway. FOUR WINS between the two of them!

If Beckett and Lester were a more palatable 10-7 in those 17 decisions, the Sox would be 35-28 at Home and 61-52 overall, 1/2 game ahead of the Orioles and have the WC lead.

That’s a fixable problem and not a ‘fundamentally flawed roster’ as many Boston-media shit-stirrers have floated. It may not get fixed until this off-season, and Beckett’s contract will be a hurdle, but I’m more confident than ever that it will get fixed.

This season is pretty much over. We might as well come to grips with that now. Neither of those two guys are likely to flip a switch and find their top-of-the-rotation groove in time to make a real run.

It is standard practice for players close to returning to game activity to travel not for guys out for the season. As for the beer, guys drink whatever the clubhouse manager provides and based on Budweiser’s deal with MLB every clubhouse is stocked with Bud products. That Bobby V beer ban is a sham.

It infuriates me that Joe Haggerty has me defending John Lackey today.

A note to the fan since ’88…the media today really isn’t any worse than it was back then, there are just more ways for them to get their message out now. Giving up a team because you don’t like the media makes no sense to me.(Giving up because they play like crap and make you miserable is an entirely different thing.) It’s like drinking Bud Light instead of Sam Adams because even though you love Sam’s you saw someone you don’t like drinking it so you don’t want to be associated with it anymore.
