We are in the same situation with Chien-Ming Wang, except he got injured in spring training, so we never got the chance to see if it’s really possible to come back from shoulder surgery (not sure if they are exactly the same procedure.)

I find this statement utterly HIIIILARIOUSSSS! IF Terry Collins took Santana out of that no-hitter game, he would have had to move to the moon, in order to live the rest of his life! I am not kidding when I tell you he would have had to worry hardcore for his life if he took Santana out! The Mets have had ZERO (up to that point) no-hitters in the history of the team! They have had tons of great pitchers and tons of great pitching performances over the history of the team…..YET NO ONE PITCHED A NO-HITTER! No way he was coming out of that game, and if he was taken out, you would have probably led the charge for Terry Collins head! Damned if you do, damned if you don’t! Bottom line…..this is a pitcher who is less than a year removed from MAJOR ARM/SHOULDER SURGERY, and he hasn’t done a bad job (overall this year), if you ask me! Sure he hasn’t been good (ok he has stunk) the second half of the year, but considering he almost never pitched again after last year, I, for one (die hard Mets fan) am pleased with what he has done for this team this year! Hopefully he rebounds even more next year! If he still struggles, then I agree that the eyebrows should be raised!

And a good point it is, your point about RA Dickey is on the money as well – putting your best pitcher on less than regular rest soley to possibly achieve a personal award is absolutely goofy.

As for Santana, imagine if umpire Adrian Johnson would have made the right call on Beltran’s fair ball down the line?

Collins never would have been pressured into keeping Santana in, he would have been long gone after a reasonable pitch count and we may not be discussing his woeful performance since.

I’m pretty sure that 134, while a lot, isn’t going to break you any more than 105 or 115. Roy Halladay said it a few years ago. The extra 20 pitches are NOT going to break you. If you throw 20 or 30 extra pitches on Monday, you don’t throw as many in your practice/bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday. Simple as that.

Its the same reason I can’t understand why managers are so afraid to use a reliever for a 15-20 pitch inning more than 2 nights in a row. Don’t these guys practice/throw a bullpen session every day? This mfer throws a 30-40 pitch bullpen session every day, and he can’t throw 15-20 pitches 3 nights in a row effectively?

You misunderstand me. I’m a Nats fan and could not care less whether Santana got his no hitter or not. I was just pointing out how stupid it was to leave him in that game.

If collins took Johan out while he was throwing a no hitter than people would be pissed. He leaves Johan into get the no no and people are pissed. People are stupid basically.

Yep…and the same knucklehead manager who left Santana in for 134 pitches coming off a major injury just to get his no hitter now wants to give R.A. Dickey extra starts in September just to increase his chances at a Cy Young award. News flash, Cy Young Awards and no hitters don’t mean much when your team is crashing and burning because your players are injured.
