Lester and Beckett

That, my fellow Sox fans, is where the focus of your disappointment and dissatisfaction should be.

If nothing else, the Red Sox must move one or the other this off-season to appease what will be a blood thirsty fan base . . . in what should be, as some sort of twisted consolation, the most fascinating off-season since 2003.

The Sox would get far more for Lester given that he is younger and has a more consistent track record than Beckett. Lester still has tremendous long term upside.

Beckett will be harder to move, has far less long term upside and has the personality of a reality show diva.

And even though ownership is a little off the pulse of the fanbase, Francona – by his own admission – lost that clubhouse.

And alluding to the notion that Bobby Valentine is the problem is also tired.

Point your fingers squarely at Beckett and Lester – the Sox are 15-27 in games they have started this year. If they had pitched closer to their career averages, they’d be nipping at the Yankees heels, if not leading the East right now.

Scott Cooper would have been a more apt reference, but anytime you can slip someone as obscure as Ted Cox into a comment is cool with me.

…but it feels like the bad ol’ days are back, but this team as currently isn’t a group of loveable losers…they’re a group of loathsome losers.

I mean, really…every team endures injuries and hardships, but this season is a goddamned Greek tragedy.

You would have liked to have explained that since the Red Sox are having a down year, the loss of one of their few remaining productive players, would not have a major impact on their over-all suckage.

Now, the readers are left to ask themselves: Does Panktics believe that Middlebrooks’ is a future Ted Cox, or does he mean that because he’s currently injured, he has become a useless plop of shit?
