Crazy play–I was at the game–visiting the midwest and first time at US Cellular. The catcher actually was on third base, presumably because the pitcher fell asleep by not covering third and then later by not covering home.

I didn’t realize the Sox were playing the Astros.

But seriously, really head’s up play by AJ. It takes two to tango, and had Pierzynski not been so opportunistic OR the A’s been so mentally checked out, this would never have happened, but it shows that even at the highest level of the game, there are those players who are mentally sharp and those who aren’t. It’s a matter of taking advantage when those opportunities arise, and kudos to AJP for doing so.

Worth nothing he was stealing 2nd on the play, making it easier for him to quickly round 2nd and head to 3rd base.

Add this one to the long list of Pierzynski’s heads-up plays throughout his career. Hate him all you want, but the man can take advantage of any baseball situation.

After watching play it took me a few moment’s get over the shock then again AJ has had more then his fair share of strange plays and this one may not be the strangest.
