Davis used Eistein’s theory of relativity to determine the ball’s speed in relationship to the wall’s height and crosschecked it with his Cell’s phone’s GPS lat and long numbers, Elementary, Watson. Best catch of the Year Bar None ! Hill is a wussy. Dude gets a huge contrac, then gets hurt from day one. Watch where he’s looking, particularly on the close up from :40 – :45. He’s watching the ball, but the whole time he’s checking back to size up the wall. Ball, wall, ball, wall, ball. That’s not a guy on a reactive catch-up play. That’s a guy making a mental map who is planning out exactly what he wants to do, and then goes out and does it.

This knocks the Trout catch in Baltimore down to 2nd place for catch of the year (so far).

Wonderful catch…but more impressive to me was the play on the ball.
The dude knew he had to slow up…time his leap…AND anticipate where to grab/step on the wall with his foot. Then…the height of the jump/push off. 10′ wall…w/ a player that’s what (5′-6”)?
Amazing.

Great catch, but to me it looks like it’s going to be a double off the very top of the wall…maybe hit a little higher and bounce over, but I don’t think it was a sure thing that one was going out. Impressive anyway.

A spectacular catch and the highlight of a pretty highlight-free stretch as a Jays fan. I thought Toronto was gonna blow their 10-1 lead and Davis’ play was even huger considering the Yankees were mounting a comeback. This injury situation is just mental – SEVEN everyday players out of the lineup yesterday.

In his post game interview, Davis said that the ball went farther than he initially thought it would. His play was predicated on preparation. He had previously thought out how he could make a play like that.

Wrong. He slowed away from the wall to time it. He needed momentum to get to the top of the 10′ wall, so he couldn’t camp out at the base and just jump.

Davis totally thought the ball was leaving and out of his reach at first, which is why he slowed up; then, once he realized he might actually have a play, he put it in gear. Good catch, but predicated on his own slowing.

I loved the casual way he eased back to the wall. He knew he was going to go for it, and he knew he had time to position. Great play.

The wall is 10 feet high. Davis is 5 feet 9 inches high. To McGehee and most fans watching, it looked as if Davis had given up on the ball, while instead he was just timing his leap. In a post game interview he said that he had discussed the possibility of that play during spring training with his hitting coach Dwayne Murphy.

That was a HELL of a catch. His timing was impeccable. Last little while Davis has been en fuego with the bat, too. He and E5 are about the only real threats the Beav have left in the lineup, which could best be described as “mostly AAA and Omar Vizquel”. These great moments have been few and far between the last half of this season.
