PC, far be it for me to side with one of the Empire’s Minions, but I kinda think UYF has a point. Nova was better than Laffey; he pretty much owned Gose like Gose was an NL pitcher. That wipe-out inside curve Nova threw to leftys? Devastating. Hitting Escobar was an accident, so you are right, PC, he wasn’t great. BUT, he was better than Laffey.

The lineups fielded by both teams was far from the ideal ones drawn up in spring BUT the critical differences were Granderson, Texiera, Jeter, Cano, and Swisher. Those guys are run producers with experience and not likely to be intimidated by Laffey’s 88 mph Straight Ball (it wasn’t fast, that’s for sure). The best The Beav could muster was Davis’s OBP skillz and E5′s power threat. Everyone else was a pretty much a lucky break away from a SO. Of all The Beav’s rooks, the ones that don’t need a complete re-vamp of their swing are Cooper and possibly Sierra. All of them need to learn better plate disciple and how to recognize a big league curve ball

My friend all I can do is comment on Nova’s performance based on what and who he faced yesterday. I prefer not to speculate on how he might have pitched against players he might have faced under different circumstances. Like I said from where I sit it is a pretty good outing on his part, 7 1/3 inning, etc… there is no need to repeat the numbers,
From where you sit it wasn’t there is nothing wrong with that, we just see things differently. Have a good day.

As I wrote, Nova did not impress me. The only slugger he faced was Encarnacion who had both RBI’s. He did not face Bautista, Rasmus, Arencibia, Lawrie and Lind. I doubt that you would have praised Nova, if he had faced a complete line up.

Not to mention Lee had only thrown 102 pitching in that 10 inning game at that point and is Manuel had allowed him to go back in and not let the game fall to that bullpen it might have turned out differently.

My friend no need to be sorry. I understand where you are coming from. But if you will allow me here are the names of 4 starters for the Yankees yesterday: Jones, Nix, McGehee and Stewart. Tell me do any of those 4 players strike fear in the hearts of opposing teams. At best they are compliment players. So like I said while I understand where you are coming from, the Jays were not the only team playing with a make shift line up yesterday.
Just one final comment. As for players getting hit by a pitch(s). Yankee players have been hit the 2nd most times of any MLB team 49 compared to Toronto’s 39. It’s part of the game and I doubt very seriously that Nova hit any player intentionally, but that’s just my opinion.
In any case, good luck in this afternoons game.

Sorry to disagree, but Nova did not impress me. Due to injuries the Jays had to start 5 position players who were up from Triple A as well as a starting pitcher who began the season in Triple A. The kids are good, but are still inexperienced. Nova also went out and hit Toronto’s short stop twice knocking him out of the game.

Was that the good Reecky Nolasco out there yesterday, or was it just his evil pod twin benefitting from being paired with the even more inept Joe Blanton? It was what for Nolasco has become a typically mediocre performance, five innings, nine hits, 90 peetches, one strikeout, though only one walk. Well, why take a walk when the guy is hittable, really? Nolasco also benefitted from the Bums’ offensive ineptitude. Oddly enough, the Feesh’ RISP disease seemed to affect the Bums more than the Rainbow Warriors themselves, as the homes went an uncanny (for them) 4 for 6 with guys parked on second and third. Even Black Hole Buck had some ribbies and is batting .300 for August so far, hiking his average to .186, within striking distance of the Mendoza line, but based on past performance he’s overdue to fall off the table again soon.

After running on piss, vinegar and adrenaline in his homecoming debut, the Hanster returned to mainlining lymph and norepinephron and logged a harmless seengle in his antepenultimate hurrah at Macondo Banana Massacre Field for 2012.

By the way, much enjoyed Romney sinking his chances of carrying Florida, alienating our burgeoning population of duffers with his selection of that grackle-faced clown Ryan for VP-wannabe. First of all, Ryan pisses them off with his attacks on social security and medicare. Second, seniors hate grackles – they bully the pigeons and steal their breadcrumbs. And as we all know, in politics image is everything. If Romney wanted an ugly running mate who wouldn’t turn off the codger vote, he could have tabbed Kevin Youkilis. But, on the other hand, rich white American males finally have a choice!

Nova was able to reverse a troubling trend. His previous 2 outings were lets be honest beyond ugly. This one was very nice, even considering the “depleted” Jays. He still went 7 1/3 innings just 2 ER’s with 10K’s and just 1 walk. Very nice and very welcomed.

Well, if I were Cliff Lee, I would have responded like this:

“I have a 5-1 K to Walk ratio, showing that my still above average ERA is largely the product of bad luck. Sure, I’m 2-7, but I’m not the one who built the Phillies to have offense this year.

Some of my starts include

4/7: 6 innings, 1 run, no decision
4/18: 10 innings, 0 runs, no decision
5/15: 8 innings, 1 run, no decision
6/5: 7.2 innings, 2 runs, loss
7/18: 7 innings, 1 run, no decision

Now, how about you stop making me the strawman for the Phillies problems when the issues are clearly no offense, badly aging contracts, injuries and an awful bullpen”
