The thing about Machado: even when he’s not hitting, he’s playing third MUCH better than anyone else currently is, and is adding a lot to the team defensively. In fact, despite the great offensive start, he was brought in for defense, not offense. I don’t necessarily think it’s reasonable to think he’s going to continue batting like this, but it doesn’t really matter. His job is to play solidly at third.

Ah, Mike Jacobs! The Mets were able to turn him into Carlos Delgado that offseason, and Carlos became a huge part of their last contending team. I love Mike Jacobs.

I am pretty sure sportsdrenched would write something positive about royals if there was anything positive going on. This year has been a complete failure in KC. When the best thing you’ve done all year is cut Yuni your team has issues.

Only slight sarcasm. He looks better (obviously) than I thought he would….but KC pitchers weren’t particularly clever in their approach…of course, a guy that can jump on the first hittable FB he sees can negate a lot of approaches.

I don’t want to diminish a guys break out weekend. But everyone is always looking for the next big thing, and Machado might be the next big thing. But baseball isn’t about one series or even a half a season. It’s day in and day out. At the risk of sounding like “Get Off My Lawn” Guy….

I’ve seen lots of prospects come up and have an excellent series, and excellent month, or even an excellent season. And then the league scouts them well and makes adjustments to their game. They fail to adjust back and pretty soon they’re calling to local radio shows for the “Baseball Segment”.

It’s great that Machado can knock around Royals pitching. I’ll wait and see what he can do against the rest of the league.

Here’s the thing. He got the call up. Everyone said terrible move skipping AAA he’ll struggle. He didn’t struggle and instead hti very well and played solid D. Then everyone said it’s because the Royals are horrendous. So now Boston comes into town. If Machado continues to hit, it’ll be “well Boston is struggling this year and they’ve pretty much mailed it in so he’s still getting off easy” or “Harper started hot then faded so Machado will too.”

Too many excuses. You didn’t see Jones, Markakis and Weiters destorying pitching (well… not the whole series) and they’re the best hitters on the team. Let’s simply give credit where credit is due:Machado had a great series not because the opposition was bad, but because he’s big league ready.

Count me among those who questioned the Orioles wisdom in bringing Machado up to the bigs. I’m still not convinced — need to see way more baseball than just four games before we’ll know — but I’m happy to see him do well. The kid has guts and fire, and those things have been largely absent from the Orioles for a long time (notable exceptions, of course.)

im not being sarcastic in the least when i say im just glad people are still talking about the orioles.

as an orioles fan its just nice to hear positive baseball buzz in baltimore. at this time of year usually the ravens take over. i don’t expect to make the playoffs this year, but i can’t say id be surprised. buck showalter continues to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.

as far as machado is concerned, he played better than anyone could have predicted. he is going to slump, but at this point the orioles will take any win they can get, any day they can get it.

Machado is the next ARod (in terms of talent, not douchery), and the Orioles are going to win multiple World Series (I’m guessing they’ll face the Nats in each of the next 8 WS, with each team winning 1/2 of them).

The same Royals pitching staff who is ranked 25th out of the 30 teams with a 4.41 ERA. You’re right, not the Cuentos, Grienke’s, CC’s of the league, or the Millwoods, Milones, or Bucholzes either.
What the guy did was special, no doubt about it, but don’t think the Royals pitching staff is anything but a AAAA level group at their best.

I hope the guy keeps it’s up…… But if you look at the era and teams who he’s faced I seriously think he’ll sustain this kind of output. He was only hitting something like 266 in double A.

The same Royals who just took 2 out of 3 against the ChiSox? Yup. It’s not like he was facing terrible pitching, just not the Cuetos, Grienkes, CC’s of the league. Give the kid credit. He had a better series than ANY Oriole bat in the lineup, and I highly doubt you could call out another AA player who could come up and have the same success in thier first 4 games. Next up is Boston, so this should give him a slightly more difficult task. If he continues hitting in this series the way he started, I think he’ll be just fine.

Either way, I don’t foresee Mach-O headed back down to the minors anytime soon.
