Well, you sound pretty butt-hurt about him declining the Braves. Sadly the Braves will get knocked out in a one-game playoff vs Pitt or San Fran. Good luck with that.

Ryan has to have some time to lose that “Cubs Mentality”. When your with the Cubs, you “expect” to lose, after all, we are talking the Cubs, so most of the time you do just that, lose! He will come around, it will just take a little time. One day he will wake up and realize he’s not with the Cubs anymore and it will all be better……

So sad for you Ryan. Getting your butt lit up can’t be any fun. But, it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Enjoy the AL the next 6 weeks. See if you can pull it together so you can avoid total humiliation. After all, you chose the AL. Poor decision. First your main squeeze the Dodgers snubbed you and Theo didn’t want you either. So sad. Not really.

He probably would be fine in Atlanta. For the Rangers he’s pitching against deeper lineups in smaller parks than he would find in most of the NL.

There’s something about Wrigley this year. Not just Dempster but Samardzija and Maholm before he was traded were also pitching great.

No disrespect corgi but that is BS. Yes its a small sample size – but had the Braves acquired him – we would be 8 GB now instead of 5.

Besides – any time that a team acquires a player at the deadline it is SPECIFICALLY for a small sample size; the rest of the season – especially when its a contract year like it is for Dempster.

So yeah – at this point, its a failure. The only way it is not a failure is if he rights the ship and goes 5 – 0 the rest of the way. And judging by the way he is missing his spots over the last 3 starts – that’s not likely (even with the Rangers offense)

He would have been better off pitching on the National League. What was Ryan and Company thinking? First Roy Oswalt and now Ryan Dumpster. Theo Espstein must be rolling on his carpet laughing his a$$ off. He got some good prospects from Texas, got rid of an ugly contract and helped the Yankees in the process.

Yeah right! I watched some of those shots that the Yankees were hitting off Dumpster and had they not brought someone in to relieve him someone in those right field stands might have gotten hurt by those rockets that were hit off him.

Paging Mr. Oswalt. Paging Mr. Oswalt. He was up and throwing; but Ron Washington knew better then to bring him into that game.

And I don’t care if its a small sample size… With the way the Nats are playing – those 3 starts from Dumpster would mean we were 8 GB and pretty much only playing for the WC.

Dempster is a 39yo vet not a 23 yo rookie. Even if he lost his first 3 games, he should still show signs of being able to swim.

It could be worse…Texas could have given up 3 prospects for head-case Greinke (who happens to also not be doing well with an ERA of 5.68 with LAA with one L and two no-decision losses). At any rate, we are talking about only 3 starts w/ 17.1 IP, one of which was against the Yankees in NY, who Dempster has never pitched well against. Ultimately, its WAY too early to decide success/failure for Dempster or Greinke.

The thinking is that ERA is supposed to be solely a measure of pitching effectiveness without bringing the pitcher’s fielding into it, and that fielding effectiveness belongs in the fielding stats. If you want to argue for a more holistic approach I won’t fight you, but I don’t think that there are too many pitchers whose fielding is so bad that making a change will make a big difference.

He was significantly out-pitching his peripherals in the NL Central. It would’ve been insane not to expect some regression going to the AL West.

That said, his 3 starts have all been against top 6 offenses (by OPS), and he has 2 disasters and one great start. Hardly seems like reason to panic.

It’s beginning to look like a lot of Dempsters success this season was a function of pitching in the National League. The smaller AL parks, generally better offenses and now pitching with a DH in the line ups may be taking it’s toll on Dempster. Just my opinion. And even just before the trade his last 2 outings for the Cubs against the Cardinals and Pirates he was not exactly lights out.
