Sori wasn’t a Henry signing. He was a product of the Tribune Co. trying to win right away and drive up the cost of the team. They didn’t care about overpaying…they weren’t going to be around to pay it out

Hendry was feeling extra extra generous when Soriano signed with the Cubs.

As a Cubs’ fan, I have great respect for Soriano. Nobody plays harder or works harder on the entire team. His defense is VASTLY improved this season. He has yet to commit an error, his range factors and other defensive metrics are all at or above average, and he takes much better routes to balls. Working with Dave McKay has proven to be huge for his defense. And he is still productive. He’s over 20 HR and 70 RBI already. The only reason he isn’t going to SF is because he has 10/5 rights and doesn’t want to go. He was nearly dealt before the deadline, and he said no. He doesn’t figure to be part of the future, so I understand dealing him and eating a lot of his contract, but he is productive and is not the liability he has been defensively since he broke into the bigs with NYY

His defense has actually been much better this season. I have to give him credit where credit is due, he’s worked extremely hard on his defensive game and it shows. And by all accounts, everyone loves him in the clubhouse.
