I agree that strikeouts can be overrated, but a guy who never has to take a chance on his defense is a guy who is more valuable than a contact pitcher to the team as a whole.

I have said it before and I will repeat it again. Strikeouts are over rated. An out is an out. So far this season, Verlander is the third best pitcher in the AL. Scherzer is not a top of the rotation pitcher.

He does not go as deep into games as Verlander and he has a significantly higher ERA. He needs a lot more help from his bull pen than Verlander. He is having a decent year at 12 & 6 with a 4.41 ERA., but compared to Verlander, is a supplementary piece of the rotation.
