But he hasn’t ever actually deserved one.

2005: Lost to Pujols was clearly superior (as well as Jones and Lee)
2006: Howard won, Pujols was also far better
2007: Rollins won. Holliday, Wright, and maybe a couple of others were more deserving
2008: Pedroia won. Worst season of Cabrera’s career (though still good), didn’t really warrant serious consideration
2009: Joe. Mauer.
2010: Lost out to Josh Hamilton. Best argument for the award, but certainly not clear cut.
2011: Another good case, but Bautista and Verlander also had excellent cases. No crime that he didn’t win.

It’s not really ridiculous that he has never won. He always seems to be the 2nd or 3rd best guy in the league each year. Personally, I’d rather have the 3rd best guy in the league year in and year out than the best one year and 15th best the next.
