He hits 600 he is in unless they can prove he is using steroids. All other clean players with 600 are in. He may not get in on right away but he will. Time will tell.

Me neither. I love Adam Dunn, but he’ll be viewed as the rich man’s Dave Kingman and Kingman didn’t get 1% on the HOF vote.

I don’t see it as a cheap shot either. When I first saw the headline that he had 400, my first thought was that he could easily get at least 500, and whether or not I really saw Dunn as a Hall of Fame player. It is a legit question.

I don’t see a cheap shot, just facts. His OBP is decent because he walks a lot, but most HOF voters still undervalue OBP and WAY WAY WAY over value BA….and he has always been a butcher in the field. It isn’t far fetched to say that some years he gave away as many runs as he helped create. Horrible OF. Horrible 1B. Just clueless with a glove. And HOF voters that do value walks/OBP also value defense…..so no matter which type of voter you are talking about, they will knock him for something.

Adam Dunn is a big strong man who swings for the fences every time he batts. No pussy singles or doubles and he’s way too slow to hit a triple in most ball parks. If he hit 500 HRs, he belongs in the HOF because anyway you cut it, HRs are hard….even MJ couldn’t hit HRs and he has to be the greatest athlete ever. Go Adam and Go Sox! (Red Sox…that is!)

I dunno, hushbrother…600 home runs is one HELL of a milestone. I understand your point about his metrics in just about every other area being deficient, but man…

…I don’t see how you could keep a guy who hits 600 home runs cleanly (as far as we know) out of the Hall.

I don’t know he’ll get the playing time. He’s already 41 and hasn’t played more than 100 games in 2 years.

Dunn is not a Hall of Famer. Even if he gets to 600 homers! His game is too deficient in too many key areas.

If we can use advanced metrics to show that certain players are Hall-worthy, then we can also use them to show that certain players aren’t. Dunn might get 600 home runs and still end up with a career WAR below Cecil Cooper and Bob Watson.

I don’t know if most fans will be as optimistic about Adam Dunn’s chances for the Hall Of Fame as the article’s author was. Along with his 400 home runs, Dunn has just 1,000 RBI, which is a relatively low RBI total for that many HRs and indicates that a lot of his home runs came with the bases empty. Also at this point in his career Dunn already has 1981 strikeouts. He’s sixth on the all-time list and should pass the retired Andres Galaeeaga (2003Ks) and the injured A-Rod (2000Ks) to gain fourth place before this season’s end. He is a strong threat to break record holder, Reggie Jackson’s career total of 2,597 some day to become the all-time strikeout king (an unwanted crown) a in the not-too-distant future. The only question is will he break Jackson’s record or JimThome’s because Thome, #2 on the list, was starting to close in on Jackson’s record before getting injured and could break Reggie’s record if he should return for a final season in 2013. Whether Jackson or Thome is the record holder a few years from now, Dunn figures to break their record by a wide margin.

Dont talk to Dunn about fielding. He doesn’t believe in fielding. On either side of the ball. He should be the career leader in Three True Outcomes, and possibly negative UZR had it not been for that DH gig he landed
