It can take months to regain touch and feel for the secondary pitches, and fastball command can fade in and out as arm strength builds and the inevitable dead-arm period arrives. Still, having him back allows the A’s to push back the starts of the rookies here and there, giving them some extra rest, as all of them (Parker, Milone, Griffin, and Straily) are at or above their previous career highs.
