As for playing defense. There are some that would argue that Miggy doesn’t do much of that at 3B. I don’t think he is as bad at the corner as some do.

Having said that, I have long tired of the lack of respect and recognition that DH’s receive in the context of the team concept.

Somehow all-bat/no-glove players and Closers are acceptable and qualified for MVP trophies and legit HOF candidates – but immense Offensive talents like David Ortiz and Edgar Martinez who dominated opposing pitching for most of their long careers are somehow ‘player non grata’.

Interesting that that line of illogic didn’t apply to Paul Molitor who spent more time at DH in his career than any other single position that he played. He also had a higher OPS than any other position that he played (other than 1B, which he played just 196 total games at).

In fact from a sabermetric perspective, Molitor was, at best, an average defender at some positions and well below average at others.
