Black, Roenicke, and Maddon were all part of Scioscia’s staff. Scioscia isn’t perfect, and he isn’t terrible. I think he was a little too comfortable in 2011, and Jerry DiPoto isn’t the pushover figurehead that Tony Reagins was. That’s why Hatcher’s out and Butcher’s seat is glowing red hot.

You point out a rarely acknowledged fact: It’s not just the manager, but his entire coaching staff that contributes to the success or failure of a team on the field. Clubs would do well to view their field staff and its performance as a unit, rather than heap praise or scorn on the manager. When you see teams firing a pitching coach, or batting coach, or bullpen coach, often over the manager’s objections, you can assume they’re looking at their field management as individual personalities rather than as a team management effort.

my God he needs to be fired.. he’s consistently lead one of the most talented teams in America to mediocrity. He plays favorites, and refuses to play youth, hell, earlier this year Trumbo played twice a week. He plays a national league style of baseball.. in the American league..

I used to think that Scioscias was one of the best managers in the game. I long wanted my team to somehow hire him.

Funny how all that changed once Joe Maddon left.

He’ll be back next season but he’s going to have to clean house with the staff and Butcher their pitching coach better be getting his resume ready.

It wasn’t the dreaded “vote of confidence” now was it? Soon as we see the “full and total support for Mr. Scioscia” statement, well Mike better start packing.
