As for the September call-up notion, never underestimate the value of a key stolen base. Was there ever a more important stolen base than Dave Robert’s in game 4 of the 2004 ALCS?

If you want to set the stolen base record, it helps to have a .415 OBP. Give yourself plenty of chances. All else being equal, that OBP could have as much to do with any promotion as the SBs.

Yeah, that's completely wrong. Clogging the bases refers to the big sluggers who walk a lot but can't run, hence they CLOG the bases (guys like Giambi, Thomas, Dunn, etc). In fact, a Billy Hamilton is the exact opposite of a base clogger. I caught some of the Mets-Braves game this afternoon which I believe was the ESPN debut of FJM favorite Dusty Baker along with Ric Sutcliffe and Dave Ryan. In the bottom of the first the three were discussing the Mets batting David Wright second in their batting order. Dusty says, "He (Wright) stole 20 bases last year so you don't have to worry about him clogging up the bases at the top of the order." For reference, first game, bottom of the first inning, first "clogging up the bases" quote from Dusty Baker.

Looks like he would own Yadi and any other catcher, depending on who’s on the mound. Most of the time you don’t steal on the catcher, you steal on the pitcher, so unless the pitcher has a crazy fast time to home, Hamilton will win.

do you follow the reds much?I know what clogging the bases means but I also know the way dusty manages and he does not want his players distracting the hitter by attempting to steal. he considers that clogging up the bases. as for him playing if he gets called up aside from pinch running where do you play him? you sit cozart? centerfield would be the ideal spot but he has not played it and no way dusty sits his boy stubbs for anybody let alone a call up guy. see Mesaroco last year about playing time for call ups and that was when they were out of the race,no way he plays during a pennant race under dusty.
