Yes, it would, if he was actually sitting the whole time. He was throwing in the ramp to the clubhouse. 15 pitches, then resting, then 15 pitches etc. He stayed loose based on all reports from the Nats beat writers.

The media is the one that keeps referring to innings and a limit. The nationals have simply said they will shut him down based on observation and that he will not pitch more than 180 innings. That does not mean he isn’t on a pitch count. Do you really think if us internet blog commenters know pitch counts are a better way to monitor him that a major league front office, that has put together the team with the best record, doesn’t know that?

It’s going to happen. I haven’t found anyone in the stadium who doesn’t think it’s going to happen. We’ve seen enough of Mike Rizzo to know that he won’t back down.

Dysfunctional? Davey Johnson had said that he would have shut Strasburg down if the delay had been more than an hour. He also said that he probably would’ve let him go a little longer, had it not been for the delay. Mike Rizzo was actually out there with the grounds crew, to see how long it would take them to get the field ready (which they did quicker than normal). It seems like they had set parameters in handling the situation, and they followed them. I’m not sure how that’s a sign of dysfunction.

I know, can you believe these guys? They’re overseeing a club with the best record in the majors at 77-46…….bunch of frickin’ know-nothing bozos!

They’re not shutting this guy down, they proved last night that they are all-in for this season. Nobody brings this kid back in this situation, it’s only 1 game. as far as the bullpen being used up so what pitch a position player and get the game overwith. I don’t think they should ever be perpetrarting this farce of a shutdown because its not going to happen.

Nat’inals management is dysfunctional. The GM is SOOO worried about this kid that he is willing to blow a shot at going to the World Series by shutting him down, but the Manager has no problem bring him in after cooling off for 51 minutes. I see what Johnson did last night as being MUCH MORE dangerous for the kid’s future then pitching over 180 innings.

Correct. All that was said was it won’t be more than 180. Jordan Zimmermann was shut down at 160.1. So that gives you the “range.”

The Nats havent actually said when, or if its even a strict innings count, hence why they assume its between 160 and 180.

Going by innings makes no sense. An inning can vary. Maybe I’m missing something but wouldn’t it be smarter to go by pitch count?

Still don’t think they’ll really shut him down at 160 innings. I do think they’re watching tape of every outing and every bullpen session for his mechanics and any sign of fatigue.

If they had pulled Strasburg after the delay Rick Sutcliffe’s head would’ve exploded.
