Sure, Terry Francona would manage again if someone called him

Aug 21, 2012, 1:02 PM EDT

File image of Boston Red Sox manager Francona leaving the field after being ejected from the game by umpire after arguing a controversial call with officials during the fourth inning of their American League MLB baseball game in Seattle

Terry Francona has taken to baseball commentary better than most ex-players and ex-managers do, but he’s not ruling out getting back in uniform. Well, in his case it’d be back in windbreaker, but you know what I mean. Bob Nightengale reports:

Francona, whose eight-year, stint with the Red Sox ended last September, told USA TODAY Sports he’d be interested in managing, but only for the right job.

“If something down the road presents itself and it’s the right job, I’d like to do it,” Francona said. “But I don’t want to manage just to manage.”

I hope he doesn’t manage next season because I have a sneaking suspicion Bobby Valentine is gonna be back on ESPN in 2013 and I think their banter would be rich.

    If Tito manages again it will probably be a veteran team on the cusp of winning it all. He interviewed for the St. Louis job last winter, I was expecting him to get it to be honest.

    Whatever team hires him will be in good hands. Red Sox lost more than a manager when they fired him. They lost their identity.

      Bobby Valentine is not fit to even set foot in the office that Tito occupied for eight years.

        Obvious troll is obvious

      Doctorfootball, I 99% agree. However, I think it’s good to point out that it wasn’t because HE was the identity but because without him they developed a shitty one.

    Hopefully he sign’s on with the Jays as an assistant of some sort…hopefully Farrell can bring him in somehow.

        @townballblog I’m with you too
        @hockeyflow33 Amen to that.

    Astros. (If he lost his mind) :-)

    Townball, I’m with you…..

    They brought back Theo once, why not the guy who managed them to two World Series championships?

    I know it won’t happen, but he’s still the best fit for that team.

    • townballblog - Aug 21, 2012 at 6:53 PM

      Haha! That would be awesome, winos. Soap Opera of the Century that would be.

    Indians, please come back home to where you played in your career Terry.

  12. psunick - Aug 21, 2012 at 3:28 PM

    Pirates

    Sure, they’re playing much better. But they need to stop these August collapses.

    TF knows how to get to the post season (except maybe in 2011).

    The Yankees! Joe Girhardi is a bust!

  14. willclarkgameface - Aug 21, 2012 at 4:59 PM

    All the good jobs are taken right now. He’s not going to take a seat in the Miami dugout when they fire Ozzie. The Astros job is painful even when you’re just watching on TV. The Red Sox WILL need a new manager next year, but that’s WAY out of the question. Colorado sucks. Seattle MAY be open, but they need some player development before they start to gut the manager/coaching staff.

    He won’t be in a uniform next year. It’s a bummer because he is a good manager.

    Maybe 2014, Tito.

    He will go back to the redsox and bobby will go back to Espn, they will swap positions again. I’m telling you it’s going to happen.

    so so right, rich banter in the booth with those two. I have a world of respect for Francona and all he achieved in a difficult place. Bobby V. has never ever inspired respect. The entertainment value of the two chatting over a game live,, wow
