The Marlins have talked about giving Giancarlo Stanton an extension

Giancarlo Stanton hit a couple of homers last night and brought his season line up to .288/.362/.595 with 26 bombs. He’s good, you see, so it makes sense that this is going down:

“There’s no doubt, we are very happy that he’s a Marlin,’’ team president David Samson said.

Samson said the Marlins have had internal discussions this year about a possible long-term contract for Stanton. “I don’t think it it has been anything concrete,’’ Samson said.

Stanton makes a paltry $480,000 this year, but he’s going to be eligible for arbitration as soon as this year if he’s a Super Two, and no later than 2013 regardless. Given his power at such a young age, he’s going to get expensive fast. And free agency — eligible after 2016 — is going to come sooner than anyone thinks.  Now would be a great time for Miami to make him an offer.

Yeah, or they could trade him for prospects.

Perhaps Dave Dombrowski could offer up a few prospects that won’t pan out to acquire Stanton and some random albatross of a contract…like Heath Bell. Worked out well for Detroit a few years ago. (oh man I feel like a Yankee fan now, how disheartening)

Just don’t let Loria give him cursed bling/fishing lure.

Naw, Scrooge can still unload the bling onto Stanton. BUT what he’s gotta do is give it to Mike Stanton. In fact, I would bet you that Scrooge doesn’t even know that Mike’s doppelgänger, Giancarlo, is wearing number 27 for Da Feesh. He likely would address the young fella as Mike, completely unaware of the unseemly series of events that saw young Mike replaced By Giancarlo.

Mike would have been extended by now.

I miss Mike. I wanted to be like him.

David is only happy because other franchises will be willing to give up tons of prospects for him plus cash.

Does Matthew Pouliot think this is the wrong time to lock up Stanton? I mean, without the carrot of big money how can he stay motivated?

Trade him immediately. His trade value is about as high as it’s going to get.

If was Giancarlo Stanton I would want Albert Pujols type of contract.

I saw this kid take BP in Denver last Thursday, he is a freak of nature
