I too am depressed at times watching the Twins pitching, but I feel like there is some real hope out there if we can look at the positives from the 2011 and 2012 seasons. DeVries pitched pretty well last night, Deduno has had a good run late this season, Diamond is terrific this year. With guys like Hendriks, Gibson, etc all coming up too, it seems we could be in good shape if even half of them can stick and contribute in a meaningful way. Going into next year, you figure they need to sign a vet to anchor the rotation rather than leave it to a band of rookies. (Or, maybe that would be a fun social experiment?) I’m not sure Pavano is going to be their first pick if he proves to not be all that healthy. With so much $$ rolling off the books this year, they have the potential to bring in a mid-level name… a guy like Bedard might prove the sort of option Pavano was a few years ago. For the most part, he worked out well.

I agree that he has the ability to be a mid-rotation contributor if he is allowed to mature. But, I’m losing faith in this organization to be able to develop young players and keep them on the field.

Nothing against Nick as a person, but it seems like he just hasn’t been right after some injuries and has been a black hole in the rotation.

I try to lay off the criticisms with the guy given how quickly he was rushed through the system. He clearly wasn’t ready for that.
