If you type “melky chop” into google search, one of the suggestions is “melky cabrera crotch chop” – which has quite a few news posts, but the thing is, apparently the GIF makers missed what I saw watching the game. Melky was on base, and the old chop n’ chant started up, and Melky made the “suck it” cross-handed chop gesture, along with a bit of a pelvic thrust. During that series, he also taunted fans by pretending he was about to throw them flyballs he caught, then not throwing it into the stands.

It’s just a continuation of a pattern for Melky though. He once spent an entire year taunting Braves fans in a performance art piece titled “2010 Season.”

Melky tomahawk-chopped his own crotch? That’s even dumber than his fake website fiasco.

If Melky ever does that again, the Braves should give him one of their foam tomahawks for fans, and the world will find out if he wore a cup that day.

I’m so glad all of this is happening to a player I can’t stand anyway, instead of someone I’m actually surprised and disappointed about. When Melky did the Tomahawk Chop at his crotch after getting a hit off the Braves, that turned a couple of years of “this dude sucks” into a solid case of “yeah, screw that guy, he’s a turd” in my mind.

I really hope I missed it above, because I find it hard to believe that all of the talent brought together between the writers and commenters here completely ignored that joke.

I mean, I wouldn’t say solely. I’m sure a lot of players were upset that they lost one of their better position players because he did something stupid. But I feel like they would’ve been a lot more inclined to forgive him if he had faced them and apologized. Between the website and this, it keeps looking worse…

I think some of the guys might be pissed off that he cheated, got caught, and left them hanging in a pennant race. Some might be pissed off that he left without addressing them about screwing up.

But, if you believe what Victor Conte is saying about 50% of all MLBers still juicing, now with synthetic testosterone, then there are apparently 12 more guys in that locker room doing the same thing Melky did (minus the website I’m guessing). It’d be kinda hypocritical if they were mad Melky got caught because it could happen to any of them.

I’m not saying anyone on the Giants is juicing, but I’m also not naive enough to be surprised if someone else go caught.

Why would he get more games for creating a fake website? Because he was trying to hide his cheating? Is the 50 game suspension only for guys who are openly cheating?

stex, I think Krukow’s point is simply that a) Melky cheated, but more importantly, b) he didn’t man up and face his teammates, he just skulked out quietly before the game and didn’t talk to any of his teammates.

They think he’s a cheater, a dummy (website) and a pussy (probably in ascending order of importance), that’s why they’re pissed at him.

I doubt it. first they need to prove that he was involved and then they need to figure out if they have any ground for suspension and then he gets to appeal it. if they make it to the second round he will be there to play

I really didn’t know how the players would react. Are they mad because he cheated? Are they okay with it because he helped them get to a position to be in the playoffs? Are they mad because he won’t be there the rest of the way? Are they mad because he got caught? Are they okay with it because a guy has to make a living?

I really honestly didn’t know. I sort of leaned toward the first, because I think most players think that cheating reflects on them. But with the general “what can I get away with” ethics of modern society, I really have no idea.

Best case, Melky stays off the post-season roster, Giants win WS. In the off-season, Giants sign Melky to a 1 year deal, Melky gives apology to team in spring, hits .290 in ’13. Boy, that’s a lot of dependencies…

Straight up, Melky is a dick head. I always wonder what happens in the clubhouse when suspensions happen, especially to guys that are instrumental in said team’s success.

With the fake website episode I think it is safe to say Melky will have enough games tacked on to the 50 that he will not be playing again in 2012.

I doubt they would even want him back.

Possibly the Giants will say, “Well, we got through August and September without Melky, and made the playoffs, maybe we don’t want to disrupt chemistry. Maybe we take a chance on chemistry (which many argue was a HUGE factor in 2010), and keep Melky off the post-season roster”…

Funny, except K & K would be basically in agreement, not in dispute. But no doubt the Giants have used the Melky thing as much as their own “want” to keep their level of play very high. The win over Kershaw two nights ago was an exceptional performance, and last night was excellent as well.
