Although, Jason Kipnis is playing fantastic for the Indians, he could have stayed as an outfielder if BP was playing 2nd. Since 2006, the Indians have used many, many different 2nd basemen, and all we got for him was Jeff Stevens.

Let the guy go. I’m sure he’ll pick up with someone else down the road for pennies on the dollar and he’ll be relegated to 4th outfielder duty for the rest of his career.

He was so, so good and was signed to a very reasonable extension, it’s hard not to think of what might have been. Maybe he does sign some sort of cheap minor league deal and stay with the team, but it seems likely this is the end of the road for him in Cleveland. In any case, I wish him all the best.

They have paid him over $18 million the last three years for little to no production. If anything, he should offer to sign for a minor league deal and play for the minimum next year.

Interesting nugget from baseball-reference.com was that he was acquired in a trade from the Expos along with Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, and Lee Stevens. The Indians sent out Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew. Pretty good haul for the Indians, but had the Indians held on to Phillips and gotten the production that the Reds are getting from him, you might talk about this as one of the bigger trades ever.
