Baloney. If a team gets hot or cold while a particular player is not in the line-up has so much randomness and unrelated factors mixed in that it’s an incredibly poor metric by which to measure who valuable the missing player was. You are much better off to measure more directly how many wins the player helped generate when he was in the line-up, not that there is a single correct way to do that.

A real MVP candidate can be measured by how the team performs without him. Without Cabrerra, Detroit is in a lot of trouble. They are busy praying that there’s nothing serious.
