My understanding is that Jeter is not interested in continuing in baseball after his. Playing career is over. There’s not enough money involved to tantalize him. Also, he’s essentially put his personal life on hold while he’s playing. I suspect he’ll settle down and have a family. I have heard Derek say he’d be interested in owning a MLB team. That sounds a lot more suitable for him. He’s made nearly $300 million in salary plus nearly $200 million in endorsements.

It was also the only answer he could give that the NY media couldn’t turn around into meaning he wants his current boss’ job. Even if he secretly wants to manage the Orioles due to love of crabcakes, if he showed any interest in managing in the distant future local media would claim he wants the Yankee job right away. So, he was smart to disavow any interest.

Come to think of it, did Jeter declare that he wouldn’t run for President? He meets the age (35) standard. Bill Bradley and Jack Kemp ran for President. Though I’ve never heard anyone comment on Jeter’s interest in, or grasp of, public policy. Or, for that matter, whether Jeter is a Democrat or Republican.
