Mark Grace was arrested for DUI again, off air indefinitely

6:20 p.m. EDT update: And now we know why Mark Grace is, at least temporarily, out as the Diamondbacks’ color guy. He got arrested on DUI charges for the second time this year on Thursday night.

According to the Arizona Republic, he was pulled over in Scottsdale for having expired plates at about 9 p.m. last night and he ended up flunking a field-sobriety test.

///

It’s been a tough year to be a Diamondbacks broadcaster. First Daron Sutton goes on double secret indefinite suspension for dress code violations and, allegedly, other insubordination, and now Mark Grace is placed on an indefinite leave of absence for reasons unknown:

There is no way of knowing for sure why Grace needs the time, but given the apparent personal nature, it’s likely not good. Grace had a DUI last year, but there’s no way of knowing if this has anything to do with that kind of thing, a family matter or any number of other causes.

Here’s hoping everything is OK with the guy.

He probably ate some bad road beef.

  2. mybrunoblog - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:14 PM

Skip Bayless wants these guys drug tested ASAP.

    • theawesomersfranchise - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:41 PM

Skip Bayless would argue that drinking and driving isn’t a big deal.

      • micker716 - Aug 24, 2012 at 10:46 PM

…unless Stephen A. Smith argued that it was

  3. braddavery - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:15 PM

I enjoy listening to Grace call games. Hope this isn’t permanent.

  4. stairwayto7 - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:15 PM

Of course its from his DUI! The media buried that story in the moddle pages with a small paraghaph about it. Do not be surprised if he is an alcoholic!

    • raysfan1 - Aug 24, 2012 at 7:47 PM

He already meets the criteria in DSM IV-TR as an alcohol abuser. That he might be a full-fledged alcoholic would surprise nobody.

      • raysfan1 - Aug 25, 2012 at 10:43 AM

Either way, I probably would not fire him yet, but I would make completing rehab a prerequisite to returning, and add a no recidivism clause to his contract.

  5. phillyphever - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:29 PM

He might want to kiss is career goodbye.

  6. paul621 - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:30 PM

So the guy has had 2 DUIs this year and had to take HIMSELF off the air?

    • vallewho - Aug 24, 2012 at 8:01 PM

But he has been wearing the polos….

  7. Uncle Charlie - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:31 PM

Must have been one mean looking slump buster.

  8. pinkfloydprism - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:33 PM

What a loser…sorry, if you get arrested for DUI once, it should be a wake up call. He is lucky he did not kill anyone.

    • pjmitch - Aug 24, 2012 at 7:23 PM

Who would possibly give a thumbs down for this comment???

      Pink is exactly right!

      • pinkfloydprism - Aug 24, 2012 at 7:41 PM

I have figured out that some people give me thumbs down on everything I post. One should appear here in 5 mins or less.

  9. tjg25 - Aug 24, 2012 at 6:40 PM

How about a permanent leave? This guy is a douche bag and a shitty commentator. Good riddance.

    • pinkfloydprism - Aug 24, 2012 at 7:42 PM

Agreed. I cannot watch the D’Backs on TV because of him… Besides the Hawk…worst ever.

      • royalsfaninfargo - Aug 24, 2012 at 8:18 PM

You forgot about Rex Hudler, my friend. Anyone drunk is better than Hudler sober.

      • pinkfloydprism - Aug 24, 2012 at 9:27 PM

LOL! I have yet to hear him. I may have to tune in on mlb.tv tonight

      • pinkfloydprism - Aug 24, 2012 at 9:30 PM

        Darn, he is radio…

  10. GoneYickitty - Aug 24, 2012 at 8:17 PM

Have fun in tent city buddy!

    • bbil2012 - Aug 25, 2012 at 9:23 AM

Wouldn’t it be ironic if him and his pals from tent city break into your house and do whatever?
Would you think this is such a big joke then?

  11. tashkalucy - Aug 24, 2012 at 9:26 PM

Like Tim McCarver and Steve “Psycho” Lyons – some dumb jocks that are too dumb to understand that what they say is not funny, that people have stopped laughing….at them….and the public doesn’t want their children to grow up to be them.

  12. jhorton83 - Aug 24, 2012 at 10:52 PM

Yeah, 2 DUIs in a year will generally get you fired.

  13. blacknyellablacknyella - Aug 25, 2012 at 12:02 AM

2 DUI’s in Scottsdale? In those parts, that’s simply called ‘resident.’. Not sure why anyone thinks they can walk out of a bar and into their car without being pulled over in that city.

  14. jimtron11 - Aug 25, 2012 at 2:56 AM

Ridiculous the way society has turned DUI into such a heinous act. He’ll probably never broadcast another game in his life because of this, banished to the recesses occupied by the likes of Jerry Sandusky and O.J. Simpson. Diamondbacks games, sans Daron Sutton (who was fired for speaking his mind while doing a radio interview), and now Gracie, are going to be thoroughly brutal from now on.

  15. stairwayto7 - Aug 25, 2012 at 5:59 PM

Hopefully he is FIRED! The next problem for d’cracks is what to do with his runner. For those who do nto know, he has a person dressed like him and they race with Matt Williams, Randy Johnson and Luis Gonzalez..so far Grace has won ZERO RACES! New person could be B.K. Kim!

  16. stairwayto7 - Aug 25, 2012 at 6:00 PM

For the idiots who gave me a thumbs down about him being an alcohlic, HE IS!
