I was hoping you would make a legitmate argument. Matt Kemp was a replacement level player in 2010, has been injured for a significant chunk of this year (future concern?), and probably should be moved off of CF. If you squint hard enough, your joke isn’t totally crazy.

and Ortiz and Manny. Damon and Schilling weren’t cheap either. Then there was Pedro and Beckett, and Lowell, and JD and on and on …. A team of “Millar, Damon, Schilling, Mueller, a healthy Varitek” wasn’t winning crap without the middle of the lineup and the rest of the pitching staff.

Yeah, I kind of can’t believe I have to actually say this, but Adrian Gonzalez is still one of the best first basemen in the league, and signed to a far better deal than Fielder, Teixeira, Pujols, Howard, or Votto.

Going to go out on a limb and suggest that the shoulder may have had something to do with the weak first half and his strong second half probably indicates that it has healed.

I hope that Cherington and the Sox are not really thinking about dumping Gonzo. He is the stud hitter they had been after since Manny left town. He is not part of the problem in Beantown. The trouble rests on the mound, and the managers office. The only way I even consider this is if Beckett and Lackey are traded with Gonzo…

Overpriced? AGon is having a down year but is still on pace for 4.2 fWAR. At $5mm per win, he ends up saving the RedSox a little money this year. Combine that with the surplus value from last year and what can be expected in the next two years, and the contract looks pretty fair.

As for matters of heart, that sure is a wonderful narrative to stick to a struggling team. What proof is there that Adrian has not been playing with heart?

Speaking of bums, Kevin Millar was worth 2.5 fWAR in three seasons with the Red Sox. Gonzalez is on pace for nearly 11 fWAR in two seasons. But fWAR does not take heart into account …

Because what if we take this ridiculously absurd example, and say the Dodgers wanted to trade Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw to the Angels for Vernon Wells straight up. To do so, all three players would have to pass through revocable waivers without being claimed. If, in the above scenario, the Sox pull back AGon, he’s no longer eligible to be traded for the rest of the year.

Almost every player gets put on waivers, often to hide the players that teams really want to trade. It’s a formality where most are just pulled back.

I see absolutely no way that this happens. Last hear he had his highest WAR ever, and this year his second half has been crazy good. Sure if the Dodgers wanted to give up 2-3-4 top prospects they’d get Gonzalez but that’d be their mistake. Why is it that EVERY time a guy has one down year people circle him like sharks saying that he’s either done or going to be traded? The dude had one bad half year, if he leaves then Sox fans would NOT be pleased, at all.
