As in other things, my sympathies, Gator. My first major hurricane was Audrey in 1957. I was five and have rarely been as frightened in my life. Since then I have been through many, always living close to the coast. That is one reason we abandoned the coast for the Houston area two years ago; I want hurricanes to be a hypothetical hazard in the future.

I know what it feels like to be near sea level in a large storm. And you be on the set side. Take care of yourself and yours.

Problem about the weather. Latest forecast has Isaac running along the north coast of Cuba instead of along its spine, as originally forecast. This is a big matter because it means its center of circulation will be riding along the warm water of the Gulf Stream instead of banging along the sierras in the center of the island. Not good. It means a more powerful and wetter storm.

Macondo is playing in Tinseltown, and the Razed will be secure in the Tropicana Dump as long as they confine themselves to the mezzanine. No significant events are likely to be affected, but the Republican Convention, which is being held four feet above sea level during a tidal surge, will probably be inundated by seawater and toxic waste instead of toxic rhetoric. Looks like it's really going to piss on Ron Paul's little self-glorification parade. Pity. Then again, I can't claim not to be curious about what the candidate formerly recognizable as Mitt Romney's hair will look like when wet.

Let me clear some things up about the Rays and the weather here in Florida ( Tampa).
-Longoria has been on STRICT orders from Maddon and Mgmt. not to to stretch plays with his hamstring and not to push it under any circumstances.. so it the as the 3rd base coach Tom Foley who held him up at 3rd last night in the 6th on the Roberts single to center, everyone else except Longo and Molina wouldve scored... but orders are orders and we need longo for the long haul not in august against Oakland..You could see in Longo's face he wanted to score on that play but he was held up. cant blame anyone there.
-The Sunday off day was because the RNC is in Tampa Bay this week and the Trop is being used as a welcome center for visitors on sunday. the original day off for these teams was supposed to be this past thursday but because of that it was switched.. love the 1pm sat start, dont get alot of them here..

- the effects of the storm wont be in the tampa area till around late sunday/monday am so everyone will be outta town by then. but its projecting to head towards the panhandle but were still not out the woods just yet.

-BREAKING FROM TAMPA BAY TIMES- DONT BE SURPRISED IF PROTESTERS DISRUPT THE GAME TODAY, SO FYI ... http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/rays/

Tropical Storm Isaac inches closer. It's pissing down like a scene out of Pantagruel here in the tropical paradise of Macondo today, and the Feesh go on their merry way peetching like high school varsity tryouts and occasionally scoring a run here and there to make themselves look semi-respectable. Slobbering Ozzie finally dropped el otro zapato - Viva Zapato! - and announced that succulent pink newbies Eovaldi and Tucker are going to become feextures in the rotation until the end of the season, to see at what level they can play. Eovaldi wasn't particularly impressive yesterday following a very good outing last week, coughing up home runs in each of his three innings of batting practice. He seems to be taking inconsistency lessons from Ricky Nolasco's evil pod twin. Krazy Karlos, who has been pretty good in long relief since being relegated to the boolpen earlier in this lost planet season, got shelled this time out - he may have been bitten on the hand by a shitshit, one of those rare Madegascan night lemurs I mentioned yesterday, that was lurking his his locker; they carry spore-forming anaerobes in their saliva that might have affected his grip on the ball, and they don't like being groped. It's not Karlos' fault, for a change - obviously, this was an escaped pet shitshit that might have belonged to any of a number of rich Bums fans who get off on being seen with things like that on their shoulders. Incidentally, for what it's worth, the bite of a shitshit is not nearly as painful as the bite of a tokay gecko, many of which infest Macondo these days, also escaped pets gone feral. Their scientific name is easy to remember: Gecko gecko. Really. You could look it up. The pythons may get all the attention, but if you're a Macondo homeowner who ever reached into an outdoor high hat fixture on your porch to change a light bulb, heard the sudden honking toke! cry and then felt the splitting pain of one of these little bastards clamping its mandibles over your fingers, you wouldn't really care much about the bite of a shitshit. That would be a mistake, due to the spore-forming anaerobes in its saliva. But what of that. We're concerned here with getting a tokay geck off your hand. Easy. Submerging the gecko in water in your sink would get it off pretty quickly, and then you can let it run behind your refrigerator for a long successful career munching palmetto bugs. Shitshits eats rotten fruit, but you can just throw that in the garbage. Or, you can throw it out in your yard and grow more rotten fruit without further lifting your bandaged finger. Such is the wonder of the climate in Macondo. However, if you are bitten on the hand by a shitshit like Krazy Karlos Lamebraino, for Buddha's sake don't pitch to Matt Kemp with runners in scoring position.

Okay, gotta go pull a couple more storm shutters closed now. The hurricane warning became official as soon as our crooked useless governor woke up in his Gucci bathrobe this morning, checked the Weather Channel to see if any of the lady meteorologists' nipples were showing through their blouses, was disappointed when they weren't and decided he ought to sound competent and leaderly anyway, and so sounded the alarm. I saw last night they closed the roof on Macondo Banana Massacre Field at a time when they stood to get some free water on the outfield turf. Scrooge McLoria must be getting nervous. It would be the perfect coda to this off-the-rails campaign if all the huge glass panels behind the outfield seats got peppered with flying coconuts and otherwise blown out on Monday, wouldn't it?
