So why DL him at all? It’s four days until call-ups and it’s not like he’s going to create some unfillable hole in the lineup. He can hang out and whenever he feels ready he can try again. The DL imposes limits on when he can return that seem pretty unnecessary at this point in time. And the team should be able to limp by if the big guy is willing to take a couple shots at pinch hitting during the week. It’s a good thing the local media hasn’t noticed this or they could interpret it as malingering or something. (God am I glad I don’t work under the gaze of the BOS sports media.)

The Baseball tonight commenter brought up Ortiz to schilling, trying to goad him into saying Ortiz was faking his injury. Schilling hemmed and hawed before implying Ortiz didn’t want to play but didn’t speculate on why.

My argument is that Schilling shouldn’t have said the limp was fake. I’m not quite sure what you’re taking exception to.

I can understand an injured player not wanting to push through when the team is out of contention. I especially understand wanting to be healthy going into free agency. But don’t say he’s faking a limp.

Um, like him or not, Schilling is right, considering Ortiz himself said something similar, recently, but with regards to not playing to protect himself with a new contract looming.

Anybody else watching Baseball Tonight? In summation, Schilling just got done saying the reason Ortiz was limping on the bases the other day is because he doesn’t feel like playing any more this year.

Am I wrong in thinking that Ortiz is going to be pissed to hear that?
