Cleveland get on this!!! We are hurting so bad in the starting pitcher (and most other positions) department!!! Vargas would be a great pickup!

Yes he will “cost that much even next year.” This is simply ownership saving money. The author of this post probably low-balled it at $6m-$$8m. It is probably more likely that Vargas (in ARB-3.) will cost $8m-$10m next year. We are obviously not going to contend next year. Why would ownership pay $8m-$10m to a #2 starter on a non-contending team? It just makes business sense to see what you can get coming back for Vargas instead of paying him big $ next year. (Of course the problem is that “the Great” JackZ will trade him for another Casper Wells or Ryan Langerhans. He should hold out for another one tool player like Jesus Montero.)

I’m a diehard M’s fan and I don’t know What the Hell they are thinking when their young guns aren’t ready yet and Vargas has been particularly good at home this yr. Millwood…I get that…but Vargas?

Not sure what the Mariner’s are thinking here on Vargas. Millwood has been surprisingly average but is useless for the M’s rebuild. But Vargas has become a respectable, reliable healthy starter with some good years left and won’t cost that much even next year. The Mariner’s much vaunted pitching prospects are mostly hurt or struggling in AA and AAA and not nearly ready to take Jason’s place in the bigs. All we seem to get in trades is more ‘almost good enough’ outfielders, and we already have plenty of them now.

If Vargas does fall far enough to the tigers, I believe they have the goods to get him and will try after flopping on Sanchez.

Vargas is a guy the Twins should look long and hard at. They need to use all avenues to acquire pitching, I doubt a trade could work out though.
